Backup Help, Info and Important Links This help/info page contains information you can use to restore individual files and folders using your backup - or restore an entire hard drive using your image backup. An image backup is an exact copy of your hard drive including all your files and folders, programs, settings, and your Windows operating system. You can even use the image backup on a brand new hard drive. When we set up your backup we included an image backup for you. When we set up your backup, if you had a writeable CD/DVD or a USB flash drive at the time, we created a rescue disk or USB flash drive that you can use to start your computer even if Windows won't boot. We refer to the USB flash drive we created as "rescue media". You should have already labeled your flash drive or disk "Rescue boot disk" or "Rescue boot drive" and have it stored in a safe place. You may never need it, but if you can't boot into Windows or your hard drive fails, you can use the rescue media to access your backups. The rescue media will help you boot your computer and it contains a special version Ashampoo Backup Pro that you can access and recover your data - even your entire hard drive. How to recover individual files or entire folders If you're able to boot into Windows, you can use Ashampoo to browse through your backups and recover personal files and folders like pictures, documents, music, videos, desktop, etc. This option makes it easy to recover all your personal files should you get a new computer. Just download and install Ashampoo Backup Pro on your new computer, plug the external hard drive where your backups are stored into your new computer. Open Ashampoo Backup and click on Actions > Restore from the main window: Next choose "Browse through the backup and restore individual files and folders" from the menu, then click next. Ashampoo will open File Explorer window where you can browse your backup and recover individual files or entire folders. How to use your image backup to restore a hard drive If you need to restore an entire hard drive you will need to use the rescue media to boot your computer. For complete instructions on using the rescue system to restore an entire hard drive - including all your programs, personal files, settings and the entire Windows operating system, please download this helpful PDF file. It shows you, step-by-step, how to restore your entire hard drive - even a brand new hard drive - using your image backup. It would be a great idea to print this PDF and keep a copy with your rescue media - just in case. And, if you need help with your backup program, Ashampoo provides excellent and friendly support.
