Windows Freeware
JDiskSpace Wouldn't it be nice if we were older and we didn't have to be so dumb? Wouldn't it be nice... Ah, you might be thinking Beach Boys. That's hard for me to do when I'm buried under two feet of snow. I'd be happy with a little spring right now. But those of you in living in the warm climes may go ahead and sing. We're going to get to the point real quick and say - wouldn't it be nice if you could see how your hard drive space is being used -to see at a glance what's taking up all that space and where you need to get busy and start removing some of that junk that is taking up all that space? Well you're in luck today. Because you can see graphically how your drive space is being used - and it couldn't be easier than our freeware pick this week makes it. Just peer at the pie chart below and you can how the space is being used on my "F" drive. I didn't realize until I ran JDiskSpace that I'm wasting 2.8 GB of drive space on OESTORE2006 (which is my old Outlook Express Store Folder from 2006). I know that all my stuff from 2006 is also included in the folder called WINDOWSMAILSTORE2007 - so keeping the OUTLOOK2006STORE folder is 2.8 GB of wasted drive space. I know can safely delete OESTORE2006 and swiftly regain about 2.8 GB of space on this hard drive- and 2.8 gigabytes ain't hay! What makes this program so useful is that it lets you see at a glance how your drive space is being used. And, you don't have be a guru to use the program or to read the various reports it gives you. As you can see below, there are several tabs at the top giving you different ways to view your hard drive. The view below is the default view but you can click any of those tabs and switch views in a flash.
I don't think I need to prattle on and on - you can see from the screencap what it does. It's a tool that helps you identify wasted space on your hard drive(s). This can help you better manage your disk space. Even if you have a 500GB hard drive, wasting space just because you can isn't a good idea. Leaving a bunch of junk on your hard drive is a bad habit to get into. More junk equals slower performance simply because Windows has to tromp through all that garbage to fish out what you want. If you'd like to see graphically how your hard drive space is being used, you'd won't find a better, easier way to do it than using our freeware pics JDiskSpace. It's a winner - and that is why we've named JDiskSpace our Freeware Pick Of The Week. To learn more about and/or to download JDiskSpace please visit the developer's site. NOTE: When you download this program you will see it comes in various versions for different operating systems. You'll want to download the one labeled "win" (for Windows).
