Danny is wants to know
how to get the beeps
My friend's computer has Num Lock and Caps Lock keys that
beep to alert him when they are pressed - but mine don't make any
sound. How can I be alerted with a sound so that I know if I
accidentally hit these keys? I really enjoy your trivia game on your
start page. I play it everyday! Thanks, Danny.
Our answer
Thanks, Danny! One of our biggest pet peeves used to be hitting
the CAPS LOCK key by accident and forgetting it was on. This makes
typing in passwords and usernames a pain because you'll get an error
message. We all probably get enough of those already. And typing an
entire email message with the CAPS LOCK key on, can be taken as
"yelling" by whoever you're typing or writing to -so you don't want to
type in all caps unless you want whoever is reading it to know you're
angry or intentionally rude :-).
The keyboard does have a light to indicate the CAPS LOCK key is
activated but unless you're looking at the keyboard while typing, (and
all us good typists never do that, do we?) you probably won't notice the
CAPS LOCK key is on. But, fortunately,
you can easily configure Windows XP to give you a BEEP when when you hit
the CAPS LOCK key. It comes in very handy for us and will for you too.
Here's how to set it up, it's very easy:
Go to control panel, Accessibility Options and place a checkmark next to
the "Use Toggle Keys" option. You'll find several other options there
you might find useful too.
NOW YOU'LL NEVER LEAVE THAT CAPS LOCK KEY ON WHEN TYPING AND YOU CAN
AVOID PEOPLE THINKING YOU'RE SCREAMING AT THEM.
OOPS...DARN caps LOCK key ....
