Gail cannot download files in Internet Explorer
Like so many others I am so grateful for your expertise. You have helped thousands, no maybe millions of us who seek answers about our computers and Windows.  I have this annoying problem when I try to download any file I get a security warning saying "Your current security settings do no allow this file to be downloaded"  I have turned everything off including the firewall and Avast antivirus and put all the internet settings to low including the restricted sites one.  All to no avail.  Please help, maybe others are experiencing similar trouble like this too.  Thank you in advance.  Gail

Our Answer
Hi Gail, thanks for your nice comments. Your problem could be any number of things - including security software or a firewall you've installed on your computer.  We don't know what you have installed because you didn't tell us, so we'll just give you a tip that might just fix you up - with a minimum of fuss.

Before we begin, let's get this out of the way: Make sure you're not using a restricted account. Normally, you must have adminstrator privileges to download files. So, before you go any further, make sure your account has administrator privileges.  If so, then, your user account type is not the problem.

If you're using a non-restricted user account and you still cannot download, try this and see if it helps you:

1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.

2. Under the Security tab, select Internet.

3. Under “Security level for this zone”, click Custom Level.

4. In the Security Settings panel, scroll down to the Downloads section.
Under the Automatic prompting for file downloads subheading, click Enable.

5. Click OK, on both the Security Settings and Internet Options panels.

6. Close all of your active browser sessions for the changes to take affect.

You can also download Firefox - http://firefox.com/ as a work around if the above doesn't work for you. If the above doesn't work, please let us know. There are other things you can try as well.
