Cloudeight Specials! - Registry Mechanic 20% Off - Spyware Doctor 20% Off Symantec (Norton) says WinPatrol is a virus As most of you know, we've been recommending WinPatrol for years. It's the best (and only!) product of its kind available. And the fact that Bill P. makes a very functional free version available makes it all the better. We continue to endorse and recommend Bill P's WinPatrol as a must have for every computer user. And we urge those who use the free version to upgrade to WinPatrol Plus, not so much because it has some extra features, but because it helps Bill P. continue to make WinPatrol even better. And, as most of you know, we've never liked Symantec's Norton Internet Security (360) - because, among other things, there are free anti-virus programs and anti-spyware programs available that protect you as well or better, its a bloated system-clogging resource hog, it's not user-friendly, it tends to conflict with far too many legitimate programs, its prone to report false-positives, it's impossible to uninstall without downloading a separate tool from Symantec, and it's always been our opinion that Norton Internet Security/360 is a consumer a rip-off. Norton users have to pay a high price to buy Norton 360 or Internet Security in the first place and, then, in order to keep it working, they have pay a high subscription fee EVERY year. So what did Norton do now? According to Bill P's blog "...a Symantec support rep actually told a customer that WinPatrol was a virus and during a remote assistance phone call they deleted WinPatrol from their system...." Worse, Norton charged this customer ("victim" as Bill P. put it) $99 to remove one of the finest programs anyone can install on their computer. Again, taking the liberty of borrowing from Bill P's blog - here's an image of the "chat" session between Norton's rep and the customer.
Note: by the name of the Norton rep, it doesn't sound like it's an American helping this customer out, does it? Is Symantec yet another American company outsourcing its support? Apparently it's the American thing to do. It's just another travesty in the continuing adventures of Symantec and another attempt to extort customers by robbing this person of $99 for doing absolutely nothing. We've always told you Norton was a rip-off, now you can see the kinds of game they play. The only thing Symantec cares about is your money - and selling. Bill P. has done more good for the Internet community than Norton has ever done or ever will do. It's shame that Norton continues to make billions of dollars with its inferior and bloated products and lousy support and its a shame that Bill P's WinPatrol was part of this at all. While we're on the subject of Norton: In February Norton figured they weren't making enough money so they partnered with, guess who? Ask.com. For awhile everyone who bought Norton got the Ask toolbar free! Imagine that. What a deal. After a public outcry, Norton backed off. No. If you're thinking they stopped distributing the Ask toolbar - you'd be wrong. The acquiesced to their customers only slightly - they disabled it by default but still install it. So they're still getting paid $59.95 from their customers and more money from Ask.com. Get an InfoAve Premium Subscription! - Follow us on Twitter. Stop Computer Crashes & Save 20% Too!
