wants our opinion on Ascentive's PC Scan and Sweep Hello Eightball and Thundercloud. I have learned to trust your suggestions, and I have a question about PC junk removal. I currently have the Ascentive, PC Scan & Sweep which expires soon. It is expensive, in my estimation, at $29.95 a year. Surely there is a good one for less, or better yet, FREE! Any suggestions? Ascentive was the company behind a TV scam called "FinallyFast" which is essentially what you PC Scan & Sweep is. There were all kinds of promises made by Ascentive and there were charges of false advertising filed against them. You no longer see FinallyFast commercials on TV, but we don't know what happened, if anything to the changes and accusations that were made against them. The commercials themselves were a joke - the actually showed an Apple Mac computer while talking about PCs. We've always advised against programs that promise miracle cures. Ascentive's software isn't a PC repair tool, it was basically supposed to clean and optimize the registry - and to "sweep" the computer free of adware and spyware. Some have actually claimed that FinallyFast was itself spyware. We can't comment on that. If you want our advice - you'd be better off using Registry Mechanic to clean and optimize your Windows registry. And SUPERAntiSpyware to clean and protect you from spyware, malware and adware. PC Tool's Spyware Doctor is also great. Since Ascentive's PC Scan & Sweep provides no real-time spyware protection, almost any anti-spyware which is proactive is better than software that only attempts to remove spyware after it has already been installed on your computer. Registry Mechanic is far and away the best registry cleaner and optimizer of all. We've tried many of them and Registry Mechanic is the only one we tried that doesn't cause problems with our computers. Registry Mechanic is not free, through.
