Freeware Pick of the Week
SpyShelter It's too bad we're always under constant attack when we're on the Internet. Or some would have you believe we are. I have actually bet EB that I could browse the Web for six months with no security software installed and still not get infected with anything. But, I wouldn't really do it. Even though I know better and even though I would always be alert to potential threats, I am human. I make mistakes, I do goofy things without thinking, I get tired and I get careless. So I have the best antivirus installed, the best antispyware installed, the best anti-malware installed, and not the best anti-keylogger/anti-logger installed. And all of the products I have installed are the very same products we recommend to you each week. I have all this stuff installed not because I don't know better. I could probably survive on the Web without it, but I wouldn't want to. One careless mistake can snowball and I could find my system compromised and my personal information with it. One of the most pernicious types of malware is the keylogger. Keyloggers record every keystroke you make and store them all in a file. All a criminal has to do is grab that file and he has all your passwords and everything else you've typed - including that nasty letter to the IRS you wrote but never sent - and that nasty email you wrote to your ex-boyfriend and never sent. Everything you type on your keyboard is recorded by a keylogger, so you really don't want a keylogger on your computer. As good as the anti-virus programs and antispyware programs are these days, they don't do a particularly good job of detecting and alerting you to the presence of a keylogger. If you have a keylogger installed, you need to know it. So today we're recommending the best free anti-keylogger there is - it's called SpyShelter - and in spite of its name, it is not another antispyware program. It's basically an anti-keylogger and an anti-logger. Here's what the developer says it will do:
KeyLogger protection
(kernel mode also) Clipboard Logger protection SpyShelter shields sensitive data that can be found on your Windows clipboard as a result of copying, cutting, and pasting. This software ensures that this information will not be maliciously monitored by other people. Screen Logger protection When you take screen-captures, SpyShelter spots suspicious activity that might reveal sensitive data you enter into your computer such as bank account and credit card information. Thieve and other criminals are not stupid. To assume they're stupid is stupid, right? There are all kinds of ways that someone who wants to get your personal information can get it. Keyloggers are just another tool in the criminals toolkit...so SpyShelter should be in your toolkit. Why take any chances? SpyShelter free edition works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 - but it works only on 32bit versions. There is a Premium Version of SpyShelter which has more features and works on 64bit versions of Windows. We're just sayin'.
