Speeding up and fixing up Internet Explorer 8 - Part 1

Many of you are still clinging to Internet Explorer 7, and some even to Internet Explorer 6. Not good. Internet Explorer 6 is full of unpatched security holes and by using it you are just asking for trouble. Internet Explorer 7 is better than IE6 but still not a secure browser. Still many of you hang on to your old versions of IE because Internet Explorer 8 doesn't run well on your computer, it's too slow, or you simply don't like it.

We can't help you if you just plain don't like it, but we can warn you not to use IE6 or IE7 any longer. If you do not like IE8 then try Firefox or Chrome but dont' browse the Web with old, outdated browsers.

If you don't use IE8 because it doesn't run well on your computer here are three tips that may help you make IE run better and faster on your computer.

This is a simple tweak to speed up Internet Explorer. All we're going to do here is re-register the actxprxy.dll file. This dll file (Dynamic Link Library) is a module that contains functions used for marshaling of ActiveX COM interfaces - at least that's what Microsoft says.. In some cases this DLL is not registered properly and can cause problems with IE8.

The fix is simple, just follow the steps below:

NOTE - Make sure you close all IE windows before continuing.

1. Press Windows Key + R to open a command prompt, type CMD and right-click it, and select Run as Administrator.)

2. Type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and press Enter.

You will see this message: DLLRegsiterServer in actxprxy.dll succeeded

That should make a difference in performance if that DLL was not correctly registered.
