Internet Explorer Custom Deluxe!
Adding A Custom Search Engine To Windows Internet Explorer 7' Search Bar
Windows XP and Windows Vista (Internet Explorer 7)

Our personal love affair with Google continues. We'd love Google even more if they would ship us about 100 shares of their stock since we were either

a.) too broke to buy it when it went public
b.) too stupid to buy it when it went public
c.) both of these

If you guessed "C", you're a winner! No prizes though - see "A" above.

Ahem! While we use and rely on Google for most all of our searches, sometimes, just to make sure they're still the best or to find alternate search results, we use other search engines. Sometimes, we use off-the-wall search engines. We're sort of off-the-wall sort of people.

One of the nicest features of Internet Explorer 7 is the ability to add custom search engines (and others) to your customized list of search engines. We'll bet you didn't know you could do that, did you?

Here's how. First of all you'll need to open up Internet Explorer 7 and go to the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx#  (if Internet Explorer 7 is your default you can just click that).

On the left you'll see some search engines that you can add to your list of search engines (listed in a drop-down menu next to the search form on the Internet Explorer 7 toolbar).

But wait, there's more! You can add ANY search engine you like by following the directions on the right-side of the page. Just be sure to read them carefully and do exactly as it says.

If you do everything right, you'll end up with something that looks like this:

IE7 Add A Search Engine feature

You'll note that we've added "Dogpile", "MSN Live Search", "Metacrawler" "Snap" and "Yahoo Search". Both MSN and Yahoo Search are provided from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx#

and all the others are custom search engines we added by following the instructions on the right side of that page.

You can change your default search engine at anytime by clicking "Change Search Defaults" on the drop-down menu. When a search engine is selected as the default, all searches will be performed by that search engine unless you specify a different search engine. So for convenience sake, don't select some off-the-wall search engine as your default unless you like off-the-wall results :)
