Forcing Windows Explorer To Open With A
Folder Of Your Choice
This tip was suggest by a question
from Lilian who asked: "At your suggestion
last year I increased my Ram to 512 ( much
better! - Thanks) and at the same time got
an 80 GB hard drive which I named D drive
and use it for storing all "My document"
files. Question: When saving anything, the
Windows explorer still brings up the C Drive
and I have to do a tedious click-through to
the D drive. Is there a way that I and get
the Windows Explorer go directly to the D
drive and show those directory options?
Other people upgrading are probably
wondering about this too. Thanks again for
teaching me so much over the last four
years. I like your start page too! Lilian
Are you frustrated that every time you
open Windows Explorer, it opens in "My
Documents"? Here's an easy tip that will
allow you to customize the location that
opens when you click on a Windows Explorer
Shortcut you can create easily.
First, right-click on an empty area of your desktop and choose "NEW" then select "Shortcut". Under "Type in the location of the item" Type "Explorer.exe" (without the quotes). Click "Next" and give it a name or leave the name "Explorer" which appears by default then click "Finish".
You'll see the Windows Explorer shortcut Icon on your desktop, now right-click and erase the text next to "Target" and type in "D:" (without the quotes) or whatever drive letter you want Windows Explorer to open with now click "Apply/OK".
Or for an even simpler way of opening your D: drive, you can open My Computer, right-click on "D" Drive and drag it to your Desktop and choose "Create Shortcuts Here" from the menu which appears when you release the mouse button. Now you have a direct shortcut to your D: drive on your desktop. You can leave the shortcut on your desktop, drag it your start menu by dragging it to your "Start Button" or you can right-click on it and choose "Pin To Start Menu". You can also drag it to your Quick Launch Toolbar and either copy or move it there.
