Veloz.com has been running,
what we think, are deceiving TV advertisements. In fact they are running a full-fledged
television advertising blitz. While there's nothing wrong with promoting your products
there is something wrong with a couple of points made in these commercials.
The ads claim if you visit
their Web site they'll make your computer run like new. Even faster than new. As you, our
good readers know: that is impossible. No silver-bullet-program exists that is going to
make your computer run like it did when it was new. This plays into our Santa Claus part
of our brains. We would really like to believe in the magic bullet that could make our
computers showroom fast again in just a few minutes. It ain't going to happen not from any
Web site or downloadable program. Especially not Veloz software.
Secondly, the company makes it
sound like this is a free service. Indeed it is not. It will cost you $58.00 to make your
computer "run like new" (which of course it won't). That's $58.00 a year. Heck,
that's even more than Norton. And way more than you need to pay.
Finally, Veloz is part of the
eAcceleration group, makers of "StopSign" anti-virus, which we've always found
suspect anyway due to its constant problems with false positives. Additionally, one of
this company's products, in the past at least, has been reported on Spyware Warrior as a
suspect, rogue anti-spyware program. While, the company has been reorganized and obtained
new financing (apparently they're spending a bundle of it on TV advertising) and Spyware
Warrior no longer lists them as rogue, they do not recommend them. And neither do we.
So if you see an ad for Veloz
on TV, we strongly suggest you steer clear. It's misleading. And if you fall for the
"makes your computer run faster than new" line, it may end up costing you $58.00
for a year. And, we can assure you that your computer won't run "fast as new" or
"faster than new". We just wanted to warn you. Beware!
