Rene asks how to save pictures from email
Occasionally I receive an e-mail with beautiful pictures embedded into the body of the e-mail. How can I save these pictures as a jpeg in my pictures folder?

Our answer
Very simple, Rene. Open the mail, right-click on the picture and choose "Save as" - if the image is in JPEG format it will save as JPEG format - or whatever format it is in. Here's a tip- when saving pictures from email you might notice it has a name like 2o590uabgapubg3@homecomp or something equally as unmemorable. When you right-click and choose "Save as" you can rename it then - just highlight the long, jumbled name, hit the delete key and type in whatever name you like. You don't have to add the .JPG or .PNG or .GIF at the end, just type in "marys-roses" for example (without the quotes) and save it. Windows will automatically add the correct file extension for you.

If someone sends you a photo in GIF, PNG, or BMP format, you can use a program like "Irfanview" (free) to open it (after you've saved it as above) and save it in JPEG format. Just remember, you can't change file extensions by simply changing the GIF, BMP, PNG to JPEG. It won't work and the picture won't open correctly.

Note: If you find you can only save as images as BMP format, clear your Internet Explorer cache.

Until I read about ReadyBoost in your newsletter, I had no idea that feature was available. I was using Vista and just bought a new computer with Windows 7. Thanks Ted. We appreciate your nice comments and your support. We have been using flash drives for years and ReadyBoost on our Vista computers for over a year. Now we're using them on Windows 7. We have been using flash drives so long it was one of those things we always forgot to mention in our newsletters. We were surprised that so many of our readers hadn't discovered the convenience and portability of flash drives. Peggy wants to stop disgusting emails
I do not surf the net nor do I go browsing. I do purchase from reputable sites but some how my address has been picked up by a p*orn site. ever in my life have I visited one of these sites. I am a senior citizen and my computer is used by no one but me. I have done everything possible except change my email address to stop this including setting filters and blocked senders on my server but I am still getting this disgusting mail. I do not open it but block the sender by clicking on the preview. What can I do? Thank you. Peg (I use Firefox)

Leave The Candle Burning

He left the candle burning, just as she had asked him to do. Though it had been seven years since she went away, every evening at nightfall he would light a candle. Every night while he tried to sleep through his pain and his loneliness, the candle flickered silently casting dancing shadows upon the walls in the quiet hours.

He lit the candle again and wiped a tear from his cheek, and fell into bed exhausted. Yet he knew that this night, like most other nights, sleep would not come.

He lay awake watching the ballet of shadows - again. Some nights he'd listen to the wind breathing in the boughs of barren branches of the tree she had planted outside their bedroom window -one spring day long ago and now, so far away. Other nights he'd watch the shivering shadows dance while a concerto of raindrops, rhythmically pounded on the roof and ran in little rivers and rivulets and raced to the ground below. He'd watch the silver shimmer of the rain and think lonely thoughts in the quiet hours.

He left the candle burning.
