I agree with you 100% about Hotbar. I was
downloading something a while back and it downloaded Hotbar even though I checked the no
box, that I didn't want it. It was the most annoying thing and I got rid of it as fast as
I could. You are right that it did interfere with Outlook Express. After I removed Hotbar
I couldn't open any links in my email. I had to copy and paste them to my browser to open
them and that was annoying. I went to options in Outlook Express and tried to reset my
choices and that didn't work. I finally did a system restore and then everything was OK
again. I went through a lot of hassle trying to get things back to the way they were. I
assure you I will stay as far away from Hotbar as I can in the future.
I appreciate all the good information I get from your newsletters and look forward to
getting them. Keep up the good work. The good guys always win in the end.

There are so FEW sites such as yours, that it's even more valuable than most people
realize. I, however, DO realize just how valuable your site is. Whenever I'm questioned by
friends seeking information on a site or its software, I can usually turn to your
newsletters, which I've archived for my own use, and send them on to the questioning web
surfer. Your response was clear, concise, and to the point and I applaud your
unwillingness to be intimidated by Hotbar. Keep up the good work. Your behavior has been
exemplary - and it sounds like Mr Hotbar is nervous - well you just keep making web sites
like his nervous. People like me who insist on privacy need you now more than ever.

I was one of those who installed Hotbar a couple of years
ago believing that it had associations with Microsoft. It installed so much Adware etc
i.e. without my knowledge, that my computer slowed to a crawl. had to use Ad-Aware to
remove it all.

Hi Guys,
There seems to end to the lengths Hotbar will go for your endorsement of their product. It
is sad that they prey on the innocent and uninformed as they will go to any lengths to
corrupt our computers. I have been in Australia visiting my family for two weeks and
working on ridding their computer of their's and other spyware. It may have been a futile
task as the computer is owned by teenagers not interested in removing the spyware. Perhaps
when their computer grinds to a halt they will be more receptive. My husband was
instructed to forward me my Info Ave letters so I kept up with the news while I was away.
I intend to use my Hotmail account to let these people know that you have my support. Keep
up the good work and telling it like it is.

As far as I am concerned when I first got a Computer (2 years ago). I joined this Hotbar
thingee but after about two weeks I got my Son to dis-install it and didn't it take a
while, they cling like leeches.

As a loyal reader of Information Ave and user of Cloudeight, I wish to voice my
disapproval of your programme and you behaviour. I installed your programme ONCE. With all
the changes it made to my computer I was quick to remove it, only to find it did not
remove properly and was still attaching to my email. It seems your company goes out of its
way to be obnoxious and threaten the smaller companies who have no axe to grind except to
educate the novas. You may be able to silence those you harass but have you thought of the
damage the little man can do by word of mouth. You will never silence me and I tell all I
meet to get rid of your programme as it is spy. I learnt that the hard way and if I can
save one person from your trap I will be pleased. It was inference that you are Microsoft
approved that suckered me in and now you are fraudulently claiming to be affiliated with
Trustee. Where does this stop? I may just a small cog on the wheel to put a stop to your
deceit but I will do my worst.

Your reply to Hotbar's newest "threat" letter,
was very informative and to the point. I also applaud your decision to not accept any more
correspondence from them. You have stated the facts very clearly, backing them up with
"real" articles that also substantiate what you and others know to be true. Any
further acknowledgement of their "cease and desist or else" tactics would not
serve any purpose. When/if all other companies that have been threatened stop responding
to their "strong-armed tactics", it will be time for them to either put their
money where their mouth is, (i.e. lawsuits, etc), or stop the threats. If only people
would actually stop using the Hotbar altogether, this would show them that we web users
will not tolerate our privacy continuously being monitored and if we desire
"contextually related information", we are very well able to go looking for it
ourselves!! After reading that Norton had filed suit against Hotbar, allowing them to
label Hotbar as spyware/adware, my personal thought was that it could be a step in the
right direction....forcing their hand against a larger corporation rather than the smaller
companies who have spent much more than just money in trying to maintain a respectable
enterprise, (such as yours). It definitely bears watching....time will tell.

Congratulations on your stand against Hotbar, as I stated in an earlier mail to you when
this first came to light, the problems I had with Hotbar and the trying to rid my old
computer of the entrails left in the system.
It would appear your adversary is trying to tell us that he is on Cloud nine and therefore
of some importance. He asks us to believe that the right hand actually knows what the left
hand is doing, and whilst doing it you can't class it as Spyware.
With a lot of hope he will now fade into in a vortex created by his own B/S. I agree with
you now ignore it and hopefully it will disappear.

and I have reason to say that as I did write you a letter at the beginning of the rants,
and told you what Hot Bar did to my computer, about taking my computer out of my hands,
and installing their tool bar etc. I am glad that they will be made to pay for their own
mistakes, as I am sure they will. I tell every body that Hot Bar is a spy ware and to stay
away from it, I did this last year, before all this started. Thank you for being such an

Thanks so very much for all the guidance you have so
truthfully given to all of us. Being a Sr. Citizen, some of the information that I read in
your Rant was very frightening to me and the threats you have been given. When our son
from IL was here, he became so interested in your weekly editions and has been following
all of this issue in the 6 months he was here. He explained it to me (in beginners
language) and of course, it becomes more difficult with each passing day as to the corrupt
world we are living in. I became even more upset knowing that Hotbar is listed as a
foreign corporation which, to me, speaks for itself!! Tonight I went into two of the links
at the end of your Rant and read them very carefully. Having trouble with my one eye since
cataract surgery last year, I will have to go back and read each and every one of them as
my eye permits. Once again, you have been a blessing to me on so many occasions and am so

My name is Michael and it makes me happy to read your rant on Hotbar.I have to agree with
what you wrote and i feel as though Hotbar is making the average computer user seem like
idiots in trying to make its product look like an adaware free product.I have used hotbar
before and my previous version of Mcafee did pick it up as a potentially unwanted
programme,i'm not sure if the 2005 mcafee does however as i do not have Hotbar installed
but i do know that Mcafee does write about it in their webpage and the mcafee programme
does have an updated dat file to rid the computer of this programme as seen on this mcafee
webpage http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100883.htm .

HOORAY!!! You are great in the information you are
presenting about Hotbar. As part of my teaching duties I maintain the computers at our
school and I have lost count how many computers became totally corrupted and crashed as a
direct result of installing Hotbar. Hotbar totally messed up the e-mail program that we
use and locked up some computers.

About a year ago I and some of my co-workers loaded hotbar
on our computers at work. It seems that it does strange things to a computer. We
experienced popups and all sorts of problems. Our computer department had to reload all of
our programs and clean out our computers. Every now an again I will run spybot and it
detects hotbar components received from someones email and suggest they be destroyed.

it is and you are the best people to represent the people out here who do not have the
experience or knowledge you have to discover the things Hotbar would like us NOT to know.
I appreciate, respect, and thank you guys for all you do for "us" our here. You

jealous and threatened by you would not be hearing from them. They apparently are worried
