Things In Perspective
I think it was about three years ago we started warning everyone about the consequences
of spyware/adware and the like. Now, of course, it's all over the news and everyone's
making it appear as if it's a newly discovered pandemic. Well, our readers know better.
Spyware/adware isn't anything new. It's just new to CNN, I guess.
But, today we're going to look at things from a different
perspective. There are many more important and many more serious things in life to worry
about than spyware and adware. In the grand scheme of things, your family, your health,
your job, your friends, and your home are much more important that the conniving little
slimeballs who produce the adware and spyware we all have learned to loathe. Spyware
and/or adware isn't going to make you sick, it isn't going ruin your family, it won't
chase your friends away, in fact, even if it causes your computer to stop functioning,
it can be fixed.
Miscreants like those who produce spyware and adware are nothing
new. The Internet, in every way, mirrors the "real" world. The longer the
Internet exists, the more it will emulate the "real" world. There have been scams and chicanery
going on since man first invented "money". There are always those looking for an easy buck and
will connive to separate you from your hard-earned money. Spyware and
adware just prefer to do it the new-fashioned way: Trick you out of it. Oh, you
pay for it, even though they shout "FREE", "FREE", "FREE" from their
cyber-megaphones. They will make you pay but not in cash - although they get cash from you in a round about way. The
advertisers who pay these slimeballs are the ones who, in reality, finance them. As long
as there are advertisers willing to support the dregs of cybersociety, the
scumbags will
continue to accumulate wealth. The more wealth they accumulate the more power
they acquire. Isn't that sad? There is nothing more frightening than slimeball
companies with power and money. And, give these ill-doers some wealth
and power and I can pretty much guarantee you that it will bring even more corruption.
Evil and greed have been around since the beginning of
time. We're not going to stop it. All we can do is be aware of it, try
to avoid it, keep on
learning more about it, and be smarter than the slimeballs. But, we shouldn't let our
trepidations ruin
the magnificent things that make the Internet what it is. There are some truly
decent people on the
Internet who really do care and are honest and truthful. The old adage about the
one bad
apple spoiling the rest, is sadly true. You cannot judge the Internet by the slime and scum
that skulk around on it.
Sadly, spyware
and its kindred will be with us in some form or the other for a long time to come;
regardless of what laws governments pass or what new, spiffy
anti-spyware programs are developed. Spyware and adware will adapt and
become more sneaky and find new ways to lure you into their traps.. And,
unfortunately, worms, Trojans, viruses, and phishing scams will continue
to to make headlines. It's good to be careful, and it's good to be
wary; it's really good to be smarter than the ones trying to outsmart you. But,
don't let it consume all your time online and don't let it ruin the
Internet for you.
Beautiful summer days and soft summer
showers do not make headlines. Sunsets on the beach and that perfect
glass of lemonade will never be breaking news. You're always going to
hear about the bad, the ugly, and tragic. Learn to
keep things in
perspective. It's
summertime; almost the fourth of July. Enjoy the real world, enjoy your families, enjoy the sunshine, the picnics,
and the beaches. Rejoice in the wonders of nature and in those soft
summer nights. Summer won't be with us long, autumn is just a breath
away. Take time to see the beauty that is all around you - if you
haven't noticed it lately, then you have not taken the
time to look.
Summer is here, the sun is shining, the flowers are
blooming, and beauty is all around you. So, enjoy the wonders of
summer while it's here. Spend time with your family and friends. Relax and enjoy the
warm summer nights and long summer days. Look up at the summer sky and
be amazed by vastness of the universe.
Keep things in perspective and have a great
summer!
