Removing Arrows From Windows
Shortcut Icons Since you're using Windows XP, you can download Tweak UI for Windows XP from Microsoft's Power Toys Page. Once you've downloaded it, run it and click the "+" next to Explorer (on the menu on the left side of Tweak UI) to expand the Explorer sub-menu. Choose "Shortcut" to open the Shortcut dialog. Tick the circle next to "None" and click "OK". Here's a screen shot.
Windows 98, ME, NT, and 2000 users can download Tweak UI for their versions of Windows too. The process for removing the arrows from shortcut icons is very similar to the process above. Windows 98/ME/NT/2000 users can download Tweak UI for their versions of Windows from this link. Once you've installed Tweak UI, open it and click the "Explorer" tab at the top. Tick the circle that says "None" then click "Apply" and "OK". Here's a screen shot for you!
