Rita just bought a Chromebook Our answer Emsisoft is an antivirus/anti-malware for Windows. There's also an Android version for smartphones but no version of Emsisoft for Chromebook - and honestly, you don't need an antivirus on Chromebook since basically, everything runs from the "cloud". Reg Organizer is a Windows optimizer and toolkit, so it would not be useful on the Chrome OS. Both Emsisoft & Reg Organizer are great for your Windows computer - they won't work on your Chromebook. We hope this answers your questions, Rita. Rhonda asks about Outlook's

Gayle needs our help to reinstall her
printer Our answer
1. Turn off your printer. After you do that then unplug your printer
from the power source.
2. Open Settings (Windows key + I) and click on "Bluetooth & other
devices"
3. When that settings page opens, click on "Printers & scanners" in
the left pane.
4. When the Printers & scanners page opens, under "Printers &
scanners" find your HP Officejet 4652 printer in the list and click
on it.
5. When you click on it, one of the options you'll see is "Remove
device? Click on Remove device", when you "Are you sure you want to
remove this device" click "Yes".
6. Reboot your computer.
Now, plug your printer into its power source (wall socket) and turn
your printer on. Find the software you downloaded earlier and run
it. Follow the onscreen instructions to install your printer exactly
the way you did when you first set it up.
Here's a hint for you. Having HP Smart installed makes fixing
printer issues much easier. So, after you get your printer working
again I suggest you download
and install HP Smart (it's free) from here.
I hope this helps you, Gayle. But if you need more help, just let me
know.

Is there any way to get rid of it?
Our answer
Hi Jim. That's called the Settings banner and in Windows 11 there is no way to get rid of it that I know of, I'm sorry to say. There is a way for those using Windows 10 who have the settings banner to get rid of it (see our article here) but Windows 11 users, so far, are stuck with it.
Judy wants to know if a $35 deal for
MS Office is legitimate
My Microsoft Word is ancient and I know some of the features have been improved. Today on your Start Page, 3rd column, Technology & Internet News, there was an item called "Get a lifetime license to Microsoft Office 2021 for $33 now." I like that price, is it legitimate? When I clicked on the link for more information, Stacksocial.com, an Emsisoft warning about the site popped up. I didn't go any further. Good or any suggestions I don't want to pay a small fortune, nor a free program. Thank you in advance. Judy
Our answer
Hi Judy. Other than the tips and tricks in the first column of our
Start page which comes directly from us, all the other news and tech
news is coming from other respected sources. The $35 MS Office
Program deals are all over the internet and they are not all that
they seem to be and some are not legal for individuals to own. But
for some reason, Microsoft seems to turn a blind eye to the practice
of companies selling these kinds of licenses for Office and selling
it at a discount.
How can they sell Microsoft Office for $35?
1. They may be selling gray market licenses. Gray market licenses
are licenses that are not sold by Microsoft directly but by
third-party resellers. These licenses may be legitimate, but they
may not be authorized by Microsoft.
2. They may be selling refurbished licenses. Refurbished licenses
are licenses that have been previously used and then returned to the
manufacturer. They are typically sold at a discount, but they may
not be eligible for all of the same support and benefits as new
licenses.
3. They may be selling stolen licenses. Stolen licenses are
licenses that have been obtained illegally. Selling stolen licenses
is illegal, and it can also lead to problems for the buyer, such as
software vulnerabilities and security risks.
If you are considering buying MS Office at a price that seems too
good to be true, ask the seller for a certificate of authenticity.
Darcy and I suggest you stay away from these
"too-good-to-be-true-deals" and buy a Microsoft 365 (the new name
for MS Office) subscription directly from Microsoft.
An MS 365 (Microsoft Office 365) personal subscription is only $6.99
a month and you get MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, 1
terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage (more than enough to backup your
computer), and more. Plus all your Office programs are always
updated so you are always using the most current versions of Office
programs. You
can get more information about MS 365 Personal here.
We hope this answers your questions and helps you make a wise
decision, Judy.
David is trying to help his
vision-impaired friend
Hello TC. I am helping a friend who has macular degeneration which is getting worse. He decided to connect his laptop to his big screen TV to help him see without using the Magnification App. Increasing the magnification in the App results in the same value on both. We have tried various configurations to set the laptop screen at normal 100% and to try to have the TV screen show differently at say 350%. So moving the mouse on the laptop screen does the same thing on the
TV only at a larger magnification. Tried various searches on Google but couldn't find an applicable fix. Can you throw any light on how to make it work? Thanks, David. Our answer
Plugging a TV into the HDMI port of your laptop will not result in
Windows recognizing the TV as a second display (dual monitor
set-up). If you can get Windows to recognize the TV as a 2nd display
(i.e. dual monitor setup) you can change the resolution of each
display to get the magnification you are looking for. The two
articles cited should help you.
Also, don't forget about all the Windows accessibility features for the
vision-impaired. These features include:
Windows Narrator: The Widows Narrator is a built-in screen reader
that can read aloud text and describe events on the screen. Narrator
can be used to navigate the Windows interface, read documents,
emails, and webpages, and perform other tasks.
Window's Magnifier: Magnifier is a tool that can enlarge the screen,
making it easier to see text and images. The magnifier offers three
different magnification modes: full screen, lens, and docked.
Windows High Contrast mode: High Contrast mode can make text and
other elements on the screen easier to see by changing the colors
and brightness of the screen.
Windows Speech Recognition: Speech Recognition allows users to
control their computer using their voice. Speech Recognition can be
used to type, navigate the Windows interface, and perform other
tasks.
Immersive Reader: Microsoft's Immersive Reader is a free tool, built
into Word, OneNote, Outlook, Office Lens, Microsoft Teams, Reading
Progress, Forms, Flip, and the Edge browser, that implements proven
techniques to improve reading and writing for people regardless of
their age or ability. Immersive Reader can change the font, size,
and color of text, and it can also provide text highlighting and
translation.
In addition to these built-in Windows features, several third-party
software programs can be used to help people who are blind or have
low vision use their computers. These programs include:
JAWS: JAWS is a popular screen reader that offers a wide range of
features, including support for a variety of applications and
devices. Jaws is not free software but they do have a free trial
version.
Read more here.
NVDA: NVDA is a popular free screen reader that is lightweight and
easy to use.
Read more here.
For more information about full-screen magnifiers and how and why to
use them
see this article.
If you need more help with any of the Windows accessibility features
or how to access them, please let us know the version of Windows
you're working with and we'll do all we can to help you and your
friend.

How to Open the Snipping Tool with a
Single Key Stroke If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11 and you don’t have a 3rd-party screenshot tool installed, you should know about Windows Snipping Tool. Snipping Tool is a very capable screenshot tool that keeps getting better and better. And it’s installed on every Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer. Today, we’re going to show you how to open the Snipping Tool with a single keystroke. How to Open the Snipping Tool with a Single Keystroke on Windows 10 Hold down the Windows key and tap the U key to open Ease of Access. In Ease of Access click on Keyboard and under “Print Screen shortcut” “Use the PrtScr button to open screen snipping”, slide the button to the on position.
How to Open the Snipping Tool with a Single Keystroke on Windows 11 Press and hold down the Windows key and tap the “U” key to open Windows 10 “Accessibility”. In “Accessibility” under “Interaction” click on “Keyboard”. Slide the button next to “Use the print screen key to open Snipping Tool” to the on position.
You can now start the Snipping Tool with the PrtScr key.
When you press the PrtScr key, you’ll see the Snipping Tool toolbar appear at the top of your screen. From the toolbar, you can select whether you want to capture the entire screen, cut out a section using the free from tool, or capture the current window. Once you’ve captured the screenshot you want with the Snipping Tool, the image is placed on the Windows clipboard. From there you can paste the screenshot into Microsoft Paint — which is included with every Windows 10 and Windows 11 computer — or paste the image into the Windows Photos app, Irfanview, FastStone Image Viewer, Photoshop, or the image editor of your choice. Another quick tip. You can open Microsoft Paint by typing PAINT into the taskbar search on Windows 10 or Windows 11 and pressing Enter. Once Paint is open, you can then paste the screenshot you took with the Snipping Tool into MS Paint by using the CTRL+V shortcut. You can also paste the Snipping Tool screenshot into the image editor of your choice by using the CTRL+ V shortcut. An Easy Way to Sort Files in Folders
In all versions of Windows, you can sort files in folders by date, name, type, and so on. Here’s the easy way to sort folders in just about any way you like if you're using Windows 10 or Windows 11. Open any folder and right-click on a blank space in the folder. You’ll see a menu appear. Click on “Sort by, " and another menu appears.
Above: Sorting files in folders in Windows 10. Below: Sorting files in folders in Windows 11. Note that Windows 11's File Explorer has a "Sort" icon at the top. You can also right-click in the folder and get the sort menu, just like you did in Windows 10.
From that menu, you’ll be able to sort all the files in that folder by Name, Date, Type, Size, Tags, and more. You’ll also see that you can sort them in ascending or descending order. Let’s sort a folder by name. If we choose ascending order, files will be
alphabetically sorted from A to Z. If we choose "descending order", files
will be alphabetically sorted from Z to A. See? Above: Files sorted by name in ascending order. Below: Files sorted by name in descending order. You can use this method to sort files in any folder and organize them any way you want. Your Mouse Can Do More Than You Think! Did you know your mouse wheel is good for more than just scrolling?
Pressing down on the wheel will act like a third mouse button. You can open a link in a new tab by clicking the wheel on any link. You can close any browser tab by clicking the wheel on any open tab. Zoom in and out on a web page, word document, excel spreadsheet, and more Hold down the Ctrl key and move the mouse wheel away from you (up)to zoom in and enlarge the text and content on web pages and most emails, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets. Conversely, more the mouse wheel toward you (down) to zoom out and make text and content smaller. Resize your desktop icons And, if you want to make your desktop icons really big, go to your desktop, click on an empty area of your desktop, hold down the Ctrl key, and move your mouse wheel away from you to enlarge the icons or move the mouse wheel toward you to make them smaller. Really easy! Open new instances of programs or apps Opening more than one program window or app is called opening a new instance. OK, for instance, 🙂 if you want to open two Notepad windows, with one Notepad window open, click on the Notepad icon in the taskbar using your mouse wheel as a button and a second Notepad window will open…click with your mouse wheel again and a third Notepad window will open, and so on. You can open as many new program windows as you like. Most, but not all programs/apps, allow you to open more than one instance of the program/app. Some mouse wheels can do even more… Did you know that some mouse wheels can be pushed left or right to move backward and forward on a web page? Don’t overlook your mouse wheel. It can do a lot more than you think. Go do some wheelies! ![]() Want more tips, tricks, and information?
