WonderScreens Help and FAQ
Compatible with Windows 98/NT/Me/2000/XP
Updated 9/25/2005

  • Anyone using Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000/XP can use Wonderscreens as long as Internet Explorer 4.x or higher is installed and Active Desktop is enabled.  Windows XP has active desktop already enabled. Note: Not compatible with Vista.

  • You must have either Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java or Sun Microsystems' Java Machine installed. Most newer computers do, but if you don't see the effects (rain, snow, water, ripple, etc.) you need to install the latest version. You can get Sun's Java Machine free by clicking here.

  • After ensuring your computer is Java enabled then you must install the Wonderscreens. Just choose the one you want to install, click the download button or link, and choose "Download this file from location."  Choose "Open or Run" if you are using Internet Explorer 6.0.  The file will extract to the correct directory and be ready for you to choose it as your Desktop Wallpaper.

  • Some Wonderscreens will not cover your entire desktop; they will be centered. Many Wonderscreens for Members Only are available in larger size for 17" monitors, but you can use the smaller size on your 17" monitor too!  If yours is not centered, then your monitor adjustments are off-center. Most monitors have buttons to adjust the screen positioning right on the monitor itself.

  • Uninstalling WonderScreens is easy, click here for instructions!

  • If you install the WonderScreen as explained, but it is not showing the effects (snowing, raining, etc), click here for assistance!

  • Please Note! On some of our Wonderscreens, a right mouse click on your desktop will stop the motion. If you left click on the desktop, it may open your browser and bring you to our web site; otherwise there is no valid Windows command associated with left-clicking the desktop.

  • If you are used to right clicking on your desktop, to bring up your "Display Properties" window, you may have to go to Control panel and choose "Display" as some of our Wonderscreens use the right click to stop the motion.

  • Followed all the instructions here and still not seeing the effects? You will need to install the latest version. You can get Sun's Java Machine free by clicking here. You cannot see the effects unless you have a viable Java Machine installed. Sun's Java Machine is free.

Uninstalling A WonderScreen is easy. First be sure you are not using one when you try to remove it.  You must select a different desktop wallpaper, or no wallpaper at all. Remember that older WonderScreens were installed to the C:\Windows\Cloudeight folder while newer WonderScreens install to the C:\Program Files\Cloudeight folder. Browse to the folder the WonderScreen you wish to remove is in and delete the files you wish to remove. Most WonderScreens contain between 2 and 5 files with all files having the similar prefixes. You may also remove all WonderScreens by simply deleting the Cloudeight folder in the Program Files directory (or the Cloudeight Folder in C:\Windows . Deleting this folder will not affect anything else on your machine. You will not, however, be able to use WonderScreens unless you reinstall them. Deleting Wonderscreens as described above removes all traces of the WonderScreens from your system. WonderScreens themselves make no start menu entries or changes or additions to your Windows Registry.

What to do if WonderScreens are not showing Effects!

If you install a WonderScreen/Active Screen and you only see a gray box on your desktop, or it is not showing proper effect (snow, rain, etc), please click here to install Sun Java Machine on your computer. It is free. You must have a recent version of a Java Machine like Sun's to see the Java effects in many WonderScreens. Please remember some of our WonderScreens use JavaScript and these you can see without having a Java Machine installed. So, if you see some effects but not others, that's good indication you need to install the Sun Java Machine. Please please click here to download the Sun Java Machine free.
