Carole wants to translate a webpage while on that page
Hi, TC & Darcy. I was wondering if there is a way to translate a page while on the page that has the information. And/or is there a way to translate other than Google? Thanks, Carole.

Our answer
Hi Carole.  It depends on the browser you use and the page you're visiting. Here are the suggestions for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

If you're using Google Chrome

There are two main ways to translate a webpage directly on your browser:

Using Google Chrome's built-in translation:

Open the webpage you want to translate in Google Chrome.

Look for a small translate icon or text offering translation on the right side of the address bar.

If it's not automatically detected, you can right-click anywhere on the page and select "Translate" followed by your preferred language.

Chrome will then translate the entire webpage content to your chosen language.

If you're using Microsoft Edge

If you open a page written in a different language than your preferred languages in settings, Microsoft Edge will automatically prompt you to translate it.

The Translate icon appears in the address bar when you go to a web page that’s written in a foreign language. A language is considered foreign to you if it's not included in your Preferred languages list in Settings.

If you're using Firefox

Mozilla Firefox has a built-in translation feature that lets you translate webpages directly on the browser. Here's how to use it:

Navigate to the webpage you want to translate.

Look for the translation icon:

Firefox will attempt to detect the webpage's language automatically. If the language is identified as one you don't understand and Firefox supports translation for it, a translation icon will appear in the address bar. This icon usually looks like a globe or a puzzle piece.

Activate the translation bar:

Click on the translation icon. This will open a translation bar below the address bar. The translation bar will display the detected language and your preferred language (based on your Firefox settings). You can choose the language you want the webpage translated into from the dropdown menu. Click the "Translate" button on the translation bar. Firefox will then translate the entire webpage content into your chosen language.

You can also use browser extensions...

Several browser extensions offer translation features. Search for "translate" extensions in the Chrome Web Store. Popular options include "Google Translate" or "Mate Translate". Once installed, these extensions typically add a translation button to your browser toolbar for easy access. Clicking the button will translate the current webpage content.

I hope this helps you, Carole.

Ted wants to try OE Express before he buys it
I know from your newsletters that you recommend OE Classic and it does look good.  Is there a way I can try it before I buy it? I would like to try it for myself before spending money on an email program. Thanks, Ted.

Our answer
Hi Ted. OE Classic has a trial period that lasts as long as needed. It has restrictions though. You can only set up two email accounts and it inserts a tagline at the bottom of all emails you send with that the email was sent using OE Classic. After you pay for it, the tagline is removed and you can set up an unlimited number of email accounts.

You can download the free (limited) trial version at

If you decide to upgrade to the full version, it costs $37 for a lifetime license with three years of upgrades.

Keep in mind we do not sell it directly, we are an affiliate. The purchase price does not include installation by Cloudeight. For more info see https://thundercloud.net/classic/

We hope you find OE Classic as good as we do.

Tammy can't change her Windows 11 taskbar color
I recently updated to Windows 11 and I can't the color of my taskbar. It's almost white and I hate it. The place to change it is greyed out. Can you help?   Thanks, Tammy.

Our answer
Hi Tammy. First, you have to change your personalization settings as follows:

Right-click on the Start button and choose Settings. When Settings open, click on Personalization.

In "Personalization" click on "Colors" (see below):

When Personalization > Colors opens...

Next to "Choose your mode" choose "Custom".

Next to "Choose your Windows mode" choose "Dark"

Then, next to "Choose your default app mode you can choose either light or dark - dark will make all app backgrounds black.

Scroll down until you see "Accent color" and select "Manual". You can then choose any of the colors you see or if you don't want any of those, click on Custom, and you can create your own colors.

At the bottom, make sure the switches next to "Show accent color on Start and taskbar" and "Show accents on title bars and windows borders" are both turned "On".

And that's all there is to it.  I hope this helps you, Tammy.

Patrick needs to fill in PDF forms online
I have forms from my doctor that I need to fill out. They were sent to me by Gmail and are in PDF format. I can read them but cannot type on them.  I want to type on the forms on the PC. Thank You.

Our answer
Hi Patrick. Adobe offers a free service called "Fill and sign a PDF". All you have to do is go to this page, upload your PDF, fill it in, sign it (if required), and download the filled and signed PDF to your computer. There are a lot of desktop PDF form fillers but most are not free. One free one I did find is called PDF Fill but I didn't try it and I can't vouch for it or recommend it. You can take a look here.

I would choose the free Adobe online PDF form filler if I needed to fill in a PDF form.

I hope this helps you, Patrick!

Ted wants to know if OneDrive and Dropbox are online, why they use his computer's resources
I have most of my Documents, Pictures, etc. on One Drive or Dropbox. I am curious why is my memory on my computer constantly being decreased if the items are on the cloud/

Our answer
OneDrive (and Dropbox) are apps running on your computer. They run in the background constantly synchronizing files between your computer and OneDrive and Dropbox in the cloud. OneDrive and Dropbox use resources like any other app or program.

Files that are not running or being viewed don't take up resources but backing up and synchronizing files with an app (OneDrive, Dropbox or any other cloud backup app) is going to use resources as well as your internet connection.

Whenever they are actively synchronizing or backing up new files or synchronizing files, they will use more resources than when they're idle. It does not matter whether your files are stored in the cloud or on an external hard drive attached to your PC. Every app/program, including Dropbox and OneDrive, uses resources when they are running.

I hope this helps you, Ted.

Vuan wants to know about Emsisoft and Windows Security
I am confused about Emsisoft and Windows Security. I read they should not be run simultaneously. Does Emsisoft automatically disable Windows Security when it is installed? Not sure, but I think my Windows Security is still active on my laptop while I have Emsisoft. How can I know? Do I have to manually do something? Hope I am making sense. Thanks for being here for us. You take a lot of stress away!

Our answer
Hi Vuan. Thanks. Emsisoft and Windows Security are compatible. If you type Windows Security in the taskbar search you'll see Cloudeight/Emsisoft (if you are using it) and also an option to use Microsoft Defender  (AKA Windows Defender) to optionally periodically scan your computer.

Windows Security (Windows Defender) is more than an antivirus; it is a firewall, app & browser control, Exploit protector and more. If you open Windows Security and you're using Emsisoft you will see Cloudeight/Emsisoft shown under Virus & Threat Protection, other security features are provided by Windows Security and Windows (Microsoft) Defender.

You're right you should never use more than one antivirus. For example, don't use McAfee and Avast or Norton and Emsisoft, etc.. But Windows Security is more than an antivirus and Emsisoft is compatible with Windows Security & Windows Defender.

I hope this helps you, Vuan.

Debbie wants a Gmail shortcut on her desktop and taskbar
I tried to follow your directions for putting a Gmail shortcut on my desktop so I could put it on the taskbar, but evidently I didn't do it right as I ended up with the entire page on my desktop with no way to pin it to the start menu or taskbar. Could you please send me the easy directions for doing this? Thank you in advance & Thank you for everything you do for me & us!

Our answer
Hi Debbie. Thanks! The easiest way is to use Google Chrome to access Gmail and then follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Open Google Chrome, go to your Gmail account, and open your inbox.

Step 2. Click on the three vertical dots at the top right corner of Chrome, and go to "More Tools" > "Cast, save and share".  (See the screenshot below.)

How to put a Gmail Shortcut on your desktop and/or taskbar. Cloudeight InfoAve

Step 3. Then input a name for this Gmail window (Gmail would be nice :-) ) and then click on "Create". An email icon will appear on your desktop.

If you want to create a Gmail shortcut on your taskbar...

Step 4. Right-click on the shortcut you just created on the desktop, and choose "Pin to Taskbar".

If you're using any other browser, your results may vary, but here's how you can do it.

Open Gmail in Firefox, Edge, or another browser and log into Gmail. Open your Gmail inbox.

Right-click on your desktop and choose "New" > "Shortcut". In the "Type the location of the item" box copy the text from your browser's address bar and paste it in the "Type the location of the item" box. Then click "Next".

Then give your shortcut a name... Gmail, for example. Then click "Finish".

You can then right-click on the desktop shortcut to open Gmail. While Gmail is open, right-click on its icon in the taskbar and choose "Pin to taskbar."

I hope this helps you, Debbie.

Having Internet Connection Problems? Try Power Cycling
Windows 10 / Windows 11

If you’re having problems with your connection slowing down or dropping, power cycling is the first thing you should try. It’s easy and it only takes a few seconds to do. It’s not a fix for everything but it’s the first thing you should try if you start having problems with your internet connection.

Power cycling is just a fancy name for restarting your modem and wireless router (or modem/router combo)

Restarting your modem and wireless router helps create a new connection to your Internet service provider (ISP). Keep in mind that when you power cycle, anyone using your connection will be disconnected, so if there are others in your home using the internet it might be a good idea to give them a heads-up.

These are the general steps to restarting your modem and router… and these can vary by brand. Some modems and routers have power switches, but the steps below should work for almost everyone.

1.) Disconnect the router from the power source.

2.) Disconnect the modem from the power source.

3.) Wait at least two minutes.

4.) Restart your computer while the modem and router are disconnected from their power sources.

While your computer is restarting…

5.) Plug the modem back into the power source. Wait for the modem to complete its test cycle and for all the modem lights to return to normal.

6.) When the modem is working and all lights are normal, plug your router back into its power source. Wait until the router powers on and its status lights are on and look normal.

Now try your Internet connection.

If you have a modem-router combo

NOTE: Many ISPs are now supplying customers with all-in-one Modem/Routers (modem-router combo). If you have one of these, you can follow the steps above, but instead of having two devices to power off, you only have one. But you can still power cycle and you should if you start having connection problems.

What if power cycling doesn’t work?

If power cycling does not work, you’ll need to explore other options. If you are using a wireless connection and your computer is more than a few years old it may be your wireless network adapter. Luckily, if that’s your problem, there’s an easy and inexpensive fix. See our article here, to learn more.

Five Little Windows Tricks
Windows 10 / Windows 11

1. Copying the content of a Windows dialog box.

Do you want to copy the contents of a Windows dialog box? Just click anywhere inside the box, press Ctrl + C, open Notepad, and press Ctrl+V.

2. Navigate to your “home” folder in Windows.

The Windows 10 and Windows 11 home folder is the default folder for your username which contains folders like “Pictures”, “Music”, “Documents” etc. Would you like to get to your “home folder” fast? OK!

Press the Windows Key + R, type “.” in the Run dialog and press Enter. That’s quotation mark, period, quotation mark – just to make it clear. This takes you right to your home folder – just like that.

3. Want to get the full scoop about your Windows system?

Press the Windows Key + R

In the run dialog type MSINFO32

Press Enter.

There you go… everything you ever wanted to know and more!

4. Find out the date Windows was installed.

Type CMD in the taskbar search and then press Enter to open the Command Prompt.

At the prompt type:

systeminfo | find /i “Original”

Press Enter.

Cloudeight InfoAve

Above: Windows 11 was originally installed on this computer on 5/16/2022 or for those of you in other parts of the world on 16 MAY 2022.

Please note: If you reinstalled Windows, then this will show you the date you reinstalled it, not the original date Windows was installed on your PC. But it’s still a great way to see how “old” your current Windows installation is.

5. A quick way to see all the programs starting with Windows.

1. Press the Windows key + R.
2. In the Run box type WMIC and press Enter
3. In the Command prompt which opens you’ll see wmic:root\cli>
4. At the prompt type startup and press enter
5. If you did all that correctly, you’ll see a list of programs that start with Windows (shown below)…

Cloudeight InfoAve

as well as their installation directories.

Cloudeight InfoAve

And that’s all there is to it!

A little reminder!

When typing any of the commands shown in this article please remember that they must be entered exactly as shown or, boo hoo, they won’t work. So please feel free to copy and paste any or all of the commands shown in the article above. Remember we tested this command on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and they do work.

Don’t Be a Doomscroller
A tip for everyone

What is Doomscrolling? Imagine this —  You pick up your smartphone to check what’s going on, right? But then, you start seeing all this bad or negative news. But for some reason, you can’t stop scrolling. You keep on scrolling, even though it’s making you feel more anxious and worried.

That’s doomscrolling. Doomscrolling is being trapped in a cycle of reading negative or bad news online and continually scrolling through it even though it makes you feel anxious and you know it’s not good for you. You’re drawn to it and you can’t stop. It’s almost like an addiction.

Doomscrolling can mess with your mind and cause physical problems too. You might feel very anxious, stressed, or even depressed. And it’s not just your mind; it can mess with your sleep and even cause physical problems like headaches. Not only that but it’s a huge time-waster, and it can make you feel more isolated, even though you’re constantly looking at your phone or scrolling on your PC or tablet.

Doomscrolling isn’t good for you. It has real physical and psychological manifestations but sometimes it’s hard to avoid. It is very easy to get sucked down that rabbit hole.

Things that might help you avoid doomscrolling.

First, set some limits. Use timers or app limits to control how much time you spend scrolling. And be picky about what you see. Unfollow or mute accounts that continually dump negativity on you. Find articles that make you feel good or hopeful instead.

Get away from the screen! Go for a walk, read a book, or do something you enjoy. A little time in nature can help a lot. Pay attention to how you feel. If you start feeling badly or anxious, take a break. Consider turning off notifications so you’re not constantly bombarded with articles that can drag you back into that cesspool of darkness.

Try setting specific times to check the news, too. Don’t focus on sites that continually smother you with bad or negative news. Stop yourself. Don’t scroll on and on for hours. It’s good to stay informed, but don’t allow yourself to be constantly bombarded with bad or negative news.

There’s always plenty of bad news. There’s always plenty of doomsayers. But don’t allow yourself to get trapped into doomscrolling.

Don’t be a Doomscroller!

The Eye of a Needle

“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” …Matthew 19:24

Maybe because it's the season of Lent I started thinking about today's world. But it doesn't matter whether you're a Christian or not, Jesus was a great teacher whose profound teachings can help us all live a better life and build a better and more equitable world.

Jesus’ famous quote about a camel and the eye of a needle isn’t just an ancient proverb; it’s a stark reflection of our time and our current obsession with possessions and wealth. The idea of a massive camel trying to squeeze through the eye of a needle? That’s Jesus’ way of saying, that hoarding riches and truly living a life of spiritual purpose are fundamentally incompatible.

Look around. We live in a world where “more” is the mantra. We’re told happiness will come with the next big purchase, the upgraded lifestyle, the ever-increasing bank balance. But Jesus casts truth into that narrative. He asks us, pointedly, if this relentless pursuit of money and things is stealing our joy...

What is doxing?

Doxing is the act of publicly revealing someone's private information online, without their permission. This information could be things like their real name, home address, phone number, workplace, or even pictures they wouldn't want everyone to see. It's like putting someone's personal stuff on a giant billboard for the whole world to see.
