This is for you Judie -- and for everyone else (and there are many) who have an affection for good sticky notes programs. We think Stickies is the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the custom deluxe, the coupe de ville of the sticky world of sticky notes. And it's sticky world out there. There are dozens of sticky note programs available on the Web - some free and some not. But since we only deal with freeware in this section, this one is free. Not only free - as in no cost to you but free from bundles, free from other programs installing with it, free of Ask toolbar :-), free of spyware, free of adware, free of badware, it's just free, free, free, Judie!

For the few of you out there who don't know what sticky notes are - computer-wise - they're sort of like Post-It notes, only they're virtual. You don't really stick anything on your computer screen - or have Post-It notes hanging from the side of your monitor. Well, some people actually do, you know. Here's what virtual sticky notes look like:

As you can see, you can write anything you want and set them to remind you of something whenever you need to do whatever the something was you needed to do when you need to do it rather than forgetting to do something you needed to do because you didn't have a sticky note to remind you - or because, like us, you're old and you can't remember anything unless you write it down. Now, English teachers, I'm really sorry about that run-on sentence and for anything else I did grammatically wrong - I'm here to amuse and inform not to placate grammarians - obviously.

Before I get off on some sort on unrelated screed, I better call upon the program's authors to bail me out and keep me on the straight and narrow. So here without much pretense or introduction, may I introduce you to Mr. Sticky himself - Mr. Tom Revell (I wonder if he's the same guy that made the model cars I used to screw-up when I was a kid. I just liked the glue I think):

• Once on screen, stickies will remain where placed until closed, even through reboots

• Stickies appearance can be customised; fonts, colours and buttons may be changed, and styles saved. Stickies can be resized.

• Stickies can snap to each other and to the sides of the screen to keep them neatly lined up

• Stickies can be attached to a web site, document or folder so they only show when it's on screen

• Stickies can be transferred from one machine to another either over a TCP/IP network connection, or by using an SMTP mail server or MAPI client:

  • Hierarchical friends list, which may be automatically transferred from other friends

  • Play a sound file on receive

  • Signature for transmitted or emailed stickies

  • Favourite friends, and custom lists can be made

• Stickies can be hidden for a certain period, until a specified date and time, or to wake every day, week or month, to act as reminders.

• Stickies can have alarms set to ensure you notice them at a point you choose

• Stickies can be transferred to and from your Palm or PPC PDA.

• International language and RTL text support

• Stickies works with Windows Vista

• Stickies is small and simple, it writes to a single text file, and does not alter the registry

• AD network administrators can use Group Policy to control settings

• API to allow integration with other applications

• ...and Stickies is completely free!

So, Judie and all you other sticky notes fans out there, go get the best sticky notes program available anywhere. Really! It's so good, we're making Stickies our freeware program of the week.
