William has Windows XP and wants to know if he should upgrade to Windows 7
I've been using Windows XP for over 5 years now and I enjoy it. Would there be any reason for me to upgrade to Windows 7 or should I stick with Windows XP?

Our answer
Windows 7 is winning accolades from tech people. It's being touted as the best new Windows since Windows XP. And, there's no doubt that it has a lot of nice new features and a cool new look - but is it worth the price if you're happy with what you have? We don't think so.

Another thing, William. You can't upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. You'd have to do a clean install using the Windows 7 upgrade DVD - which means you'd basically be starting from scratch. Vista users can upgrade to Windows 7 and leave all their files, programs, documents, etc. intact. Plus, depending on the age of your computer, it might not be able to run Windows 7 very well.

Those who are happy with Windows XP should know that Microsoft will continue to support XP until 2014 - that's five years from now. That means all XP users will continue to get all security fixes and patches, as well as new service packs (if any) until 2014. By 2014, Windows 7 will be going on five years old and there will probably be another new version of Windows by then.

So, if you are happy with Windows XP (and most XP users are), there is no compelling reason to install Windows 7 - and since you can't upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 anyway, so you'd basically be starting all over.

All new computers offered for sale from October 22 on (except Netbooks) will have Windows 7 installed. Since your computer is at least five years old,  you may find yourself buying a new computer before Microsoft support for XP ends in 2014. So, William, unless you need a new computer, we suggest you stay with Windows XP.

Arnie S. wants to know if there's a way to schedule email to be sent in the future
I am always forgetting to send birthday greetings to family members who live all over the country. Is there a way I could compose an email today and have it sent a month or two from now. I have CalendarPal and I love the reminders, but sometimes my wife and I take short weekend trips and I don't have a laptop. Any advice or help you can give me would be really appreciate. Thanks for all you two do - you guys are the best! Arnie S. from Virginia

Our Answer
Thanks Arnie. There's a service called "Letter Me Later" that lets you send email to anyone at any future time you select. Let's say your nephew has a birthday on September 12. You can write the email now and it will be sent at a time you specify on September 12.  You can even have a copy of the email sent to you three days prior to the sending date, so you can update it, change it or discard it.

You can use Letter Me Later to send yourself reminders - even recurring reminders, or to send messages to friends while your away, as well as birthday greetings, notes, and other emails you don't want to send right away - or which need to arrive on a certain day.

Letter Me Later is free with the following restrictions:

20 email messages per month maximum - no more than ten recipients per email
No more than 20 recurrences per email message
Attachment limit: 2 MB per message
10MB attachment limit per account

If you need to send more emails than this, Letter Me Later offers a paid-version for $19.95 per year. We think their free service would be more than adequate for most home users. The limits appear to have been set to keep it fair for home users and offering business users the option to upgrade to a paid account at a fair price.

You can use your own email address so emails sent from Letter Me Later come from you - not from Letter Me Later's service.

We've tested Letter Me Later and find that it works well. You can read more about Letter Me Later and sign up for a free account by going to http://lettermelater.com/ .

Have fun!
