Joan wants to know about PC
Tools and why we didn't get back to her right away
I know how very busy you are, but I would really appreciate your input. I'm
not sure why you didn't get back to me.
I am wondering if you have downloaded the PC Tools 2011 Update. What I forgot to
tell you is that absolutely immediately after the download completed they opened
a window that was unbelievable. It listed categories and a number amount in each
category but without exaggeration it was literally flying. The speed was like in
OE when you have a lot of items in Deleted Files and you say 'yes' to delete -
it is passed by in an instant. I was so taken back by this I did find presence
of mind to click on a button that read either 'stop,' or 'cancel.' I have never
seen anything like this ever before when downloading anything. This is when I
contacted them.
I looked at your Registry Commander
and in appearance it seemed friendlier than
PC Tools. It seemed like it was written for the lay person. The title could not
be mistaken and the reason was completely understandable. I would appreciate
your opinion on the following. I would like to cancel with PC Tools - it is up
on 5/4/2011 and purchase Registry Commander. Also, do you suggest Captain
Optimizer as well? And, do you also suggest Reimage?
I want to say thank you re: SuperAntiSpyware. I did purchase this and it is
doing a great job.
Any time you can spare to guide me in sincerely appreciated. It means a lot when
you know you are talking to people you can trust.
Sincerely, Joan

We do not like the direction in which PC Tools is headed. Their aggressive
marketing, including their auto-renewal where credit cards are charged
automatically unless they get a cancellation from the customer is subject to
abuse. How many of us remember what we did a year ago? And most of us with
credit cards know that once the card is charged, it can take 30 to 60 days to
have that charge removed. We don't think PC Tools autorenewal is anything more
than trying to keep a customer base from diminishing and to keep as many people
locked-in as they can. We understand the need for a company to make a profit,
and we certainly don't begrudge any company who tries to make a fair profit from
quality software. But the methods used to generate those profits must be fair
and above board - not so aggressive as to be annoying to customers who've been
loyal and dedicated. Our feeling is if a product is good enough a simple notice
that the program will expire if not renewed, is sufficient. While automatically
charging a person's credit card may be legal (because when you read the fine
print it says they will charge your credit card each year for renewal and by
accepting that agreement, which you do by simply proceeding with the
installation of the program, Therefore by installing the software you are
legally agreeing to automatic renewals. Legal, but we don't think it's fair.
We have stopped recommending Spyware Doctor because of the aggressive marketing
used to install a (mostly) unwanted - and in our opinion, not very good software
program, PC Tools Anti-Virus. This was underhanded and not fair to those who've
been loyal users of Spyware Doctor for many years. It also leaves customers who
installed Spyware Doctor with Antivirus with less than satisfactory antivirus
protection. Therefore, because of the direction PC Tools has decided to take
Spyware Doctor we've discontinued recommending it. We've found a antispyware we
feel provides protection equal to - or greater than - Spyware Doctor, and the
lifetime license option, means you pay only once and you can use it for a
lifetime. We've been offering SUPERAntiSpyware at a substantial discount ($24.95
for SUPERAntiSpyware with a lifetime license - good for 2 computers) so all our
readers really do have an great option to replace Spyware Doctor with a
program even better
and at an exceptionally good price. We
have discontinued selling Spyware Doctor for the simple reason that we cannot,
in good conscience, recommend any program that also installs unwanted software
with it.
As to your question, we found
Registry Commander as
good or better than Mechanic - and even safer to use. And as you say, it's very,
very, easy to use. So yes, we would suggest you discontinue your Registry
Mechanic and go with Registry Commander. We have made that change on all our
computers - we not only recommend and endorse
Registry Commander,
we also use it - on all our PCs and laptops.
