Use Your Browser As a File Explorer

Use Your Browser As a File Explorer

This tip works in Windows 7, Windows 8x and Windows 10 using Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Did you know you don’t have to open My Computer/Computer or File Explorer/Windows Explorer to browse files on your PC? Nope you don’t.

You can browse files on your computer just like you browse sites on the Web, right from your browser with this handy tip from your old buddies here at Cloudeight (and I do mean OLD).

Open Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer and press CTRL+O . Wham! Lookie there, it’s your computer and you can navigate any drive, any folder and you can even open any compatible file (HTML, HTM, XML) too.

So turn your Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer Web browser into a powerful, cheap, file explorer. And by-the-way, this is certainly not a replacement for Windows Explorer or File Explorer, it’s just one of those “Did you know you could do this” kind of tips.

Above – Chrome being used a file explorer.

You can do the same thing with Internet Explorer, but you got the idea by now, right. CTRL + O … use your favorite browser and a file explorer and explore your computer right now.

Sorry, MS Edge users.  As far as we know, this does not work in Microsoft Edge. If you get it work, great!

It may work in Opera but it doesn’t work in my Windows 10 Creator version. I get the run box. I should mention that I have a fancy keyboard with buttons that open computer, home, calculator, email, and will forward, reverse, close-out or take you home page. Could that be negating the Control+O COMMAND?

Or just type C:/ in the address bar… All you do with Ctrl + O is launch an open dialog box, which works with the same File Explorer as opening My Documents does.

The article was titled “Use Your Browser a File Explorer” and that’s what CTRL+O does. C:\ or C:/ open an index of the C: drive – not very helpful or handy. We don’t mind helpful/constructive criticism, but you seem to be trolling. Go for it – I removed your URL.
