Analyze your system security with this free tool

By | May 6, 2011

This is not another anti-spyware program. It’s not another security toolbar. It’s not a security program at all. It will help you find things that may be lurking on your computer and skulking around unseen. It will let you kill questionable processes and delete dangerous files. But don’t go deleting stuff just because this program identifies them as questionable. It’s OK to kill a process, processes can be restarted. But deleting a file can’t be brought back from the dead so easily. When in doubt about a file that’s listed as questionable, google it before you delete it.

You say you have great security programs? That might be true, but security programs are not 100% infallible. We don’t live in a perfect world, and they cyber world is even less perfect. So something may have gotten got past your security programs or maybe they’re just ordinary things running in the background and not causing problems. Or maybe you just ignore us every week and don’t have any security programs installed and you’re relying on sheer luck, you don’t care, or you’re starring in “Groundhog Day II” …

Anyway… Emsisoft HiJackFree is an analysis tool for (they say) “advanced users”. But, how advanced do you have to be to click “search Google”? Not too advanced, right? So why they want to limit their users to “advanced users” only they can tell you. We think this is a tool that everyone could use. It shows you everything that’s running on your computer – more background information than we’ve ever seen in one program. It highlights things that require your attention. They’re not saying these things are dangerous, they’re just saying it’s something you need to look at. When the program doesn’t have any information about the program or service in question, it provides a link to “search Google” for more information about the program or service. You sure don’t need to be an advanced user to use HiJackFree or to benefit from it.

Here’s what the developer says – and we think he uses “advanced users” incorrectly, but anyway, here’s what he says:

“Emsisoft HiJackFree is a detailed system analysis tool which helps advanced users to detect and remove all types of HiJackers, Spyware, Adware, Trojans and Worms.

* Manage all types of Autoruns on your system
* Control all Explorer and Browser plugins (BHOs, Toolbars, etc.)
* Manage all running Processes and their associated modules
* Control all Services, even those Windows doesn’t display
* View open ports and the associated listening processes
* View all DNS entries in the hosts file
* Manage installed Layered Service Providers (LSPs)
* Analyze the system configuration with using our live online analysis
* Download a-squared HiJackFree now! It’s free for private use!
It comes with language packs for English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and many more.

Great tool for analyzing your computer. Compatible with all versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It’s free for home/personal use. We think this program would make a great addition to your computer toolbox. It’s informative and educational – and might even help you identify something untoward running on your computer that has escaped detection by your security software – or lack thereof. You can never be too careful these days, can you? Get your free copy of Emsisoft HiJackFree by visiting this page.

This is an incredible program. Just one problem – it’s making me crazy thinking I have a bug in my computer. But I don’t it is just my normal everyday laptops’ stuff! It sure does help me investigate the odd eg processes that don’t look right. Like having 3 explorer.exe’s. They all checked out so I don’t think I have a problem 🙂
Keep up the good and wonderful work you do to help me learn new things everyday. I wish I could donate a million but since I can’t I will donate what I can and get a drive thingie or maybe I won’t do that this time and not cost you guys any more money by my donating. Make sense? Hope so.

Actually scareware isn’t software that point out potential problem or security issues – scareware refers to nefarious software that pretends to scan your computer, finds serious threats, and then offers to remove them for a price. However, scareware will try to hold your computer hostage by disabling your security programs and covering your entire screen (including your taskbar and start button) with a dialog window you can’t close except by clicking the “Buy” button.

There is so much misinformation on the Web – we just wanted to clear this up.

Thanks for your support and your nice comments.

I have revised yesterdays reply. This is a great program if you want to spend the rest of your life investigating everything this program shows “may” be wrong with your computer. I have enough security programs, yes I do, and enough antivirus, only 1, enough anti-spyware (everything you have recommended)so I wish I hadn’t run this “analysis” tool. Talking about scareware. geez.
But I’m sure everyone else will see this as a winner and it won’t cause problems and maybe they can Google everything but I can’t. I have to investigate everything and that is fun but oh my it will take me away from starring in “Groundhog Day”. Oh well.
