Glenda wants to know how to get rid of AVG
How can i get AVG off my computer??
Our answer
It appears that more and more once great free antivirus programs are following the bad example set by Norton and McAfee – beginning with turning into security suites first, and apparently now becoming darn near impossible to completely remove from your computer. Fortunately Norton and McAfee aren’t completely heartless – they offer a free uninstall tool so you can get their programs off your PC. Why don’t they just make an uninstaller that works from the Control Panel? We don’t know. Maybe they really don’t want you to remove it – but legally have to give you the option to remove it – or do they just want to make you jump through hoops so you’ll think twice about removing their program from your computer?
Anyway…
AVG, following the lead of its heroes Norton & McAfee, now offers an uninstaller that completely removes AVG from your computer – which it seems the uninstaller for AVG in your Control Panel/Programs/Remove a program menu won’t.
Here’s what the folks at AVG say:
AVG REMOVER
AVG Remover eliminates all the parts of your AVG installation from your computer, including registry items, installation files, user files, etc. AVG Remover is the last option to be used in case the AVG uninstall / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.
WARNING
All AVG user settings will be removed after the uninstall process is complete, as well as content from the Virus Vault and all other items related to AVG installation and use. You will be asked during the removal procedure to restart your computer. Therefore, please make sure to finish your work and save all important data prior to launching AVG Remover.
I have the AVG Security and I love it. It just helped prevent me from getting a virus when I updated Java. I think its one of the best.
I have been using avg free for years, and finally paid for it last year, this is the best anti spam program ever, I would suggest it to all, the free is awesome, so check it out, but it is more than worth the little pittance to buy the full edition. I wouldn’t use anything else. 🙂
A good spam program is an oxymoron. Luckily when you put it on your computer you can fish out the good email – when ISPs use spam filtering – sometimes you’ll never see a good email that was deleted as spam. If you like it, use it – but an accurate spam program which doesn’t delete good emails with the bad doesn’t exist.
I have MC Afee in my PC now I was going to renue it but the price is very high, I intend to use AVG but after reading this now I have my doubts but I would like some input about AVG.
We’re not sure why you’d want to buy anything since Microsoft Security Essentials beat AVG in every single aspect of the test results we saw. And it’s free. When compared head to head with Pro (paid) version of AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials performed better and protected better than AVG. That was not the opinion of one off-the-wall independent testing lab – but the results from two well-respected and long-established testing labs. So we’re not sure why all the controversy over AVG vs. MSE. The results were clear. AVG does not protect as well as MSE. We’re not say AVG does not protect your computer at all – it too passed the tests – it just did not get as high of score as MSE.
I’ve been using AVG for years…! Started off with the freeware… but wanted more. Never ever had a virus since… caught everything so far. Had McAfee and Norton (lots of problem on my system with that one). I’ll back up AVG anytime… they’re excellent.
Sorry. My current experience with AVG is that it is intrusive and covert. I installed Firefox, and all of a sudden I have this AVG Secure Search popping up every time I want to do a search. I had never heard of it until now, and am finding it almost impossible to uninstall. I’ve uninstalled Firefox, but still have AVG popping up. When I clicked on the above-listed link to get the AVG Remover … I was taken to a site where I could INSTALL AVG, a site that touts the greatness of AVG.
So, with this experience, I have nothing but evil thoughts about AVG!
