This tip is for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
To find out what (if any) wireless networks are available wherever you are and lots of other interesting information such as signal strength, broadcast channel, and more about any detected wireless networks near you, just do this:
1. Press Windows Key + R
2. In the form next to “Open” type “command” (without the quotes) and press ENTER.
3. The command window will open
4. At the prompt enter the following command: “netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid” (without the quotes)
I get a message that Windows cannot find it. Is there some mistake?
I also get the message below
Windows cannot find command. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. ???
It doesn’t work for me either. I get the same message.
You have to start the command prompt as Administrator,
otherwise it won’t work. A lot of functions in the command window require that you open the command window as “Administrator”.
I get the same thing all the others get. Cannot find “command”.
I get the same thing everyone else is getting. “Windows cannot find command. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.”
Works fine…thanks for this one!
For those who couldn’t get this to work… There’s a typo in instruction line #2. Instead of typing “command”, type “cmd” (without the quotes).
Doesn’t work for me. My computer flashes a window that disappears quickly.
Retract. I missed a step. Using the cmd worked for me. Thank you!
