Hey! Hey! How many world stats would you like to see today?

Hey! Hey! What do you say? How many barrels did we burn today? Hey! Hey! What do you say? How much food did we waste today?

I’ve often thought that the sanest people in the world are the people we lock away and call insane. They may be the only sane ones. The world’s sure gone crazy. Doesn’t it seem like it to you? While people are starving, we toss thousands of tons of food into the garbage. We’ve got about 15,000 days left until the world runs out of oil. Still we’re burning it up like there’s no tomorrow. It’s almost like the world’s being run by Alfred E. Newman — “What? Me worry?”

Worldometers gives you live, instantly updated statistics about many things. It’s quite interesting as well as quite disturbing — unless, you don’t care. If you don’t care, that’s fine. Life’s a journey, a journey to share. I don’t why I care, but I do. It bothers me. It bothers me that the average worker makes $49 a day, while the average Fortune 500 CEO makes over $16,000 a day. Who in the heck is worth $16,000 a day? I can’t even get $6 a day out of EB.

Anyway, this site is just plain amazing to me. Maybe you’ll find it amazing too. Here’s a little sample of some of the least interesting stuff on this site:

And here’s a little snippet from Worldometers “About us” page:

“Worldometers is run by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a wide audience around the world. We have no political, governmental, or corporate affiliation.

Worldometers is cited as a source in over 450 published books, in more than 130 professional journal articles, and in over 120 Wikipedia pages. The website is considered a formidable educational tool and it is shown in classrooms around the world. Worldometers was recently voted as one of the best free reference websites by the American Library Association (ALA).

Worldometers, within the Real Time Statistics Project, has launched other websites such as 7 Billion World (7 billion people on 1 webpage), USA Right Now (live stats on the U.S.A.), StoptheHunger, and ItaliaOra (Italian stats).”

That was so cool! I’ve kept it and will be looking at it again in the days to come. Very interesting and sometimes disturbing. Thanks for posting it.
