Microsoft continues to commit blunder after blunder — now it appears Microsoft is trying to get back the past — the next major Windows Update will make Windows 8 like Windows 7.
Customers are exasperated – many people are throwing their hands up and starting to look for an alternative to Microsoft Windows. Yes of course there’s Apple (expensive) and Linux (there is a learning curve) – but soon for the first time Windows users will have a real choice – Android laptops. Android is now the world’s most used operating system – it’s used on over a billion phones and tablets. It’s easy to use and there are over a half million apps for it – many of them free. And anyone who has an Android-powered phone or tablet is already familiar with it.
Will Android Tablets and Desktops and desktops be the Windows Killer? We don’t know – we hope that Microsoft wakes up and realizes that they have to start listening to customers because customers are sure getting tired of listening to them.
Intel Says $200 Android Laptops Coming Soon
As Windows 8 struggles to gain traction, Intel certainly isn’t tying its fortunes to Microsoft’s OS. During a recent interview, an Intel executive told CNET that the company will soon begin selling its own line of Intel Atom-powered Android notebooks for around $200. That’s the same price of the cheapest Android tablets, such as the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7.
According to Intel’s chief product officer, Dadi Perlmutter, these cheap notebooks will offer touch screens and have Atom processors under the hood. The next chip in Intel’s lineup is codenamed Bay Trail, which promises twice the performance of yesteryear’s netbooks along with much longer battery life.
Analyst firm IDC recently reported that the PC industry suffered the steepest decline ever in the first quarter. The firm attributed part of this decline to Windows 8′s learning curve but also blamed the demise of low-cost netbooks. Android-powered laptops could help fill that void.
If something sounds too good to be true…I’ve already got some white elephants, will let someone else try it first.
What about chrome ops system.
Chrome OS works only on Chromebooks — Android operates on many different kinds of hardware. Chrome OS cannot take advantage of the 500,000+ apps on Google Play (store). Chrome OS and Android are two different Operating Systems.
Definitely worth a try for 200 bucks , the real problem with Microsoft is an entitlement thinking process they actually think no one can get along with out them. Americans will pick and choose winners and losers . I think Microsoft will be in the loser section.
Sometime around 1995 I tried my first computer, an Apple Macintosh, but I found it wanting when it came to its limited programs. There were so many programs and games being made for the Windows PCs! A Packard Bell with Navagator was my first computer with Windows 95 installed. I thought it was amazing, even though I had lots of shutdowns and lock ups, and had to learn to do some manipulations in DOS, especially so that my sons games would play correctly. Since than, I have been through 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and now 8. I have yet to upgrade to 8.1. They have all had their good and bad. If Windows 9 goes back to the familiar friendly Windows platform, I might just stick with it.
However, I like the Android OS on my cell and tablets for the most part so I would be interested in an Android PC if it is capable of using the apps I am familiar with on my windows pc and on my Android devices. I will not buy the first ones to come out, however. I’ll wait to see how they perform and maybe get a 2nd or 3rd generation one when some of the bugs have been worked out.
