Windows 9 Threshold: All you need to know about the next Windows

When is Windows 9 coming out and what can you expect? We take a look at the expected Windows 9 release date, leaked Windows 9 screenshots and how the Windows 9 Start Menu looks set to change, hopefully for the better.

Windows 9, codenamed Windows Threshold, is a big deal for Microsoft. While Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1 have done a little to repair the damage from its most recent, and largely unpopular, operating system, it’s clear Microsoft needs to pull a Windows 7 out of its hat, not a another Vista-style debacle.

As per usual, there are more than a few rumours, leaks and hints being dropped everywhere, so we’ve collected all the most pertinent stories and clues into one round-up so you can keep up-to-date. Heard something we haven’t? Feel free to let us know in the comments.

Windows 9 Release Date: When is Windows 9 coming out?

There are a few schools of thought on the Windows 9 release date. One suggests it’s planned for April 2015, which would make it just under two years since Windows 8 was released. This is a reasonably safe bet for a few reasons:

  1. Windows 8 is struggling, so getting the ‘next version’ out of the door is important to make people forget
  2. It has been suggested that Microsoft wants to reduce the gaps between releases
  3. The original report came from respected Microsoft reporter Paul Thurrot.

Well, the sooner Microsoft releases Windows 9, more money for them. Now, I don’t have a problem with Microsoft or any other company making money, but wouldn’t it really make more sense to really look at Windows 8 and try to figure out all the little things with it that the masses do not like, and work on fixing those first? That way a new operating system can be built around what works and what people do like about windows 8 rather than reinventing the wheel yet again. That is pretty much what they tried to do with Windows 8 and it failed miserably. Also, a lot of people are just now beginning to get accustomed to Windows 8, and then they want to throw another new system out there? Like time doesn’t fly fast enough already, too, and in justtwo years another version of Windows?

Every two years would be a tad bit fast . I am just getting settled in with windows seven and it is becoming obsolete. I do wish they had some competition out there and hopefully Android will fill that spot . or some other worthy OS could come to our rescue .

I still like to have my email on my desktop and not on the cloud although it always is on a server some where out there but I don’t like having to go and sign in online to read my mail, small as it is . Call it windows 98 second edition syndrome. Windows XP is by far the best OS since this whole deal began. I still yearn for the days of Cloud eight stationary and making my own stuff also they had something with outlook express that just can’t be expressed. The main thing about seven and XP they both work and well . My Dad used to tell me “don’t fix it if it is not broken” and I think there is tons of wisdom in that statement

All I can say is Microsoft sure mess up. I agree Windows 7 was working just fine…Outlook Express was great….shame on them for doing away with it. No other email compared to it and I tried several. I enjoyed making my own stationary also. If they make any improvement in the update for Windows 8 is to put it back like it was and stop messing with thing that work. I have news for them…they will make money no matter what…except for me and this is the last computer I’ll buy. I’m sick of all the changes and nothing one can depend on. All the changes are not for the better except for a few things. To much hunting for things one was use to finding. Personally I’m not impressed and probably won’t be with Windows 9.
