Sometimes you just bump into things when you’re up in the middle of the night, or on a Sunday afternoon just browsing around on the Web. It just so happens that when I was up during the night last night I bumped into the coffee table, and when I was browsing the Web this afternoon I bumped in to a cute little program that actually does what it says it does. So it’s not only free, but it works as it says it does.

If you like to fool around with graphics, and you’ve always wanted a program that can make Window icons out of JPGs, PNGs, or BMP images, you will want to try this program. And if you want to work with alpha layers (you don’t really want to know), and save your icons in several different sizes including 128×128, this is a freeware program you should try.

If you’re looking to make transparent icons, you’ll need to start with a transparent PNG, because there are no transparent BMPs or JPGs, at least none I’ve ever seen. I suppose some wizard will come along and say he/she has transparent BMPs, but good luck with that. I’ve seen a lot of images and I’ve never seen a transparent JPG or BMP yet. ENOUGH!

While it doesn’t have exactly the most intuitive interface I’ve ever seen: for instance there is no “Save as” option. So me mateys, when the program says “Done” it’s DONE. That means it’s saved your image in whatever Windows icon format you set up in “Options’. It saves it automatically as an .ico file -without any “Save as” option.

You might have to fiddle with it this program a bit; hopefully you won’t be in Rome when you do.

Anyway, it’s supposed to be my day off, so I’m not going to write an essay about Imagicon 4.4., I’ll let the author tell you more about his program – and remind you that it works as described – which these days is a very nice surprise.

From the developer:

“Imagicon is a graphics utility designed to convert multiple image files from BMP, JPG or PNG image formats into any of the following image formats (24-bit):

  • Windows Icon (ICO)

Options are available to transform images and enable alpha transparency of icons. The interface window of Imagicon can be personalized with custom designs.

The user can select to save icons with the following dimensions in pixels: 16 x 16, 32 x 32, 48 x 48, 64 x 64 and 128 x 128. Imagicon also features the ability to
drag ‘n’ drop multiple images for faster processing.

Full instructions are included with the software, explaining each of the possible settings and the function that they perform…”

Could the link to download this program possibly be located here?
    http://imagicon.en.malavida.com/
Or, maybe I missed the link in your article. Last night, I also couldn’t sleep, after having bumped into a Super Moon.
PS – Thanks for using “Captcha-Free.”

Sorry about that, we put the correct link in the article. The link you have should lead to the download but it’s not the developer’s site. Thanks!
