This tip is for Windows 7 and Windows 8 / 8.1
If you want a quick way to see all the programs starting with Windows, do this:
1. Press and hold down the Windows Key and press the R key
2. In the Run (Open) dialog, type WMIC and press Enter
3. In the command dialog you should see – wmic:root\cli>
4. At the prompt type: startup and press enter
5. If you did all that correctly, you’ll see a list of programs starting with Windows.
That’s all there is to it!
So the Chinese are on the moon, probably looking for more natural resources, after all even US and Australian war graves are being looted for steel (USS HOUSTON and HMAS PERTH – both sank by the Japanses Fleet in 1941) as well as a Dutch submarine.
I had my doubts about WMIC … but after running it, it helped identify something that was in my startup folder that WinPatrol did list, but not who it belonged to.
But, of course, thanks to WinPatrol, it was easily disabled.
Thanks for a great tip!
Wonder what I did wrong. I followed the instrs exactly twice. After typing startup at the prompt, i only got “c:\\Program file (x86)\Google\googlebarnotifier\googlebarnotifier. Why not just go to misconfig and the startup panel?
In Windows – there are always several ways to do things. In Windows 8 you can’t use MSCONFIG to list start-up programs – and task manager does not to a good job of listing the start ups.
As far as the command not working for you – I can’t explain it. It’s simply a Windows command that calls a Windows application — if you enter it correctly it will work.
