We all have used Adobe Reader at one time or another. But the darn thing is huge and susceptible to security issues and the like. It’s not exactly something we all enjoy using but it’s been a Windows standard for well over a decade. And we all know there are dozens of free and sort-of-free PDF readers available – some are bundled with a lot of malware, others want to abscond with your browser, and you know, those kinds of things.

To make a long story short — and we know you don’t believe that — we have finally found a PDF reader PLUS that makes opening and working with PDF files not only easy — but as simple as a right click. From the Windows Explorer extension to the program itself — Debenu PDF Tools allows you to open and work with PDF files quickly and easily. And it’s simple to use. What more could you want?

I’m sure someone out there wants more. But rather than droning on and on and on about this very nice freeware program — we’re going to let the developers tell you, because obviously they, unlike us, are not given to yammering or droning. They like lists — and you do too, right? So here you go — a description and a long list of features. What more could you want or need?

Debenu PDF Tools is a free Windows application built using Debenu’s Quick PDF Library for working with PDF files. Just right-click on a PDF in Windows Explorer and select the ‘Debenu PDF Tools’ menu item to see the list of features. Or double-click to work directly within the viewer. It’s simple to use and will let you preview PDF files, merge PDF files, edit document properties, add and edit custom metadata, convert images to PDF, convert PDF to text and much more.

Key features

Advanced PDF Preview – right-click on a PDF document and view it instantly.
Edit the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords property fields of single or multiple PDF files at the same time.
Edit the initial view for PDF files on your desktop without opening them.
Add and edit custom metadata for PDF files.
View security document restrictions for PDF files.
Add and remove open passwords on PDF files.
Convert images to PDF.
Convert PDF to image – creates a folder, and stores each PDF page as a JPEG.
Extract text from a PDF and save it to a text file.
Remove all bookmarks in a PDF with one click.
Extract a list of all bookmarks from a document to a text file.
View document fonts.
Merge all selected PDF files together effortlessly.
Extremely easy-to-use and quick to load.

Here are some screen shots for you — proving once again we actually test these programs 🙂

If you don’t know what this program does or what it’s for by now, you probably don’t need it. EB said hi, too.

Oh, there is a trial version of the Debenu PDF Tools as well –but it will expire and you’ll have to buy it or remove it. We’re recommending the free version — the one that never expires and is free forever. We tested Debenu on 11/22/2014, and found the Debenu PDF Tools installer free of malware or any kind of trickery — and the site plays no games with the download links. It requests your email address but you can click “I don’t see the form” and it will take you to the download page.

Emsisoft users read this: Emsisoft will warn you on installation that the installer is trying to manipulate other processes. Allow this or exclude from protection. The process it’s trying to manipulate is adding itself to the right-click menu — so yes you want to allow this.

Whoopie!!! I consider this an early Xmas present. Can’t wait to uninstall Adobe Reader and it’s persistent and frequent nuisance updates.

Well, pooh! Just last month I purchased a one-year license from Adobe allowing me to export PDF material to a word program (in my case MS Word).

Leslie (BTW I’m in MA, too), I’ve had similar things happen to me for other C8 superfinds or pricing deals. A suggestion… maybe you could download Debenu PDF tools now, or set up an early calendar reminder for next year (I use Calendar Pal)? If you’re like me, next year when it’s time to fork over renewal money to Adobe you won’t remember the name of this program ;o))

Hi Linda: Firefox is a browser not a server. Since Debenu is a program you install on a Windows PC, and it’s not a browser plug-in, the browser you use doesn’t make any difference.

I would like to see a comparison between Foxit PDF Reader and Debenu PDF Reader.

Easy. Fox-it tries to sneak malware on your computer via its installer so that’s a good enough reason for us to avoid it and not recommend it.

Does Debenu allow signed and certified pdf documents to be edited?

You would have to ask that question by submitting it to the support people at Debenu. We only tested the viewing and editing capabilities of the program and we were impressed. I don’t even know what a “certified PDF document” is.

      Thanks, TC

I have not used Adobe Reader for years because it has become so bloated……This Debenu PDF Tools is just what I have been searching for. I would not have downloaded it without the recommendation from Cloudeight and the assurance that it will not include malware, etc. Thanks for your keeping us safe !!

The link is working fine, Robyn. I doubt there were too many people trying to access that site — the program has been around for a few years.
