A Word About Emsisoft Internet Security

For all Windows users

Recently Emsisoft began offering users of Emsisoft Anti-Malware (and antivirus) a free “upgrade” to Emsisoft Internet Security. We’re going to tread lightly here because we both really respect the Emsisoft team.

We can understand why Emsisoft is heavily promoting its Internet Security Suite. The Internet Security software industry is highly competitive and Emsisoft wants to compete with other security suites.

The truth is, the only significant difference between Emsisoft Anti-Malware is its firewall. And whether the firewall is made by Emsisoft, Avast, Norton, McAfee or any of a myriad of other security software companies, it’s unnecessary. Windows Firewall protects users as well as any 3rd party firewall; it’s never been proven that any other software firewall protects users better than the firewall Windows users already have.

And while the “upgrade” to Emsisoft Internet Security may be free, the renewal is quite a bit more expensive than the renewal for Emsisoft Anti-Malware and the protection is the same.

We believe that Emsisoft Anti-Malware is the best anti-malware and anti-virus you can have on your computer. As long as Windows Firewall is turned on your protection will be as good as it gets, without spending more than you need to.

The problem with 3rd-party firewalls is that the generate warning for many connections which are normal, every day connections made by respectable programs just doing their job. After a while users get so used to clicking OK or Cancel to every warning that when/if something pernicious comes along, they react to it the same way the reacted all previous warnings.

Windows Firewall has been much maligned by every who is trying to sell a 3rd-party firewall, but the truth is the truth. Windows Firewall offers both inbound and outbound protection, albeit the outbound is not on by default. But here’s the deal — if you have good anti-malware and anti-virus what malicious programs are you going to have on your computer that an outbound firewall is going to prevent connecting to an Internet server? Well, how good is your anti-virus / anti-malware? If it’s excellent then you have nothing to worry about. While Windows Firewall has been denigrated by tech writers eager to sell you an unnecessary third-party firewall, it’s never been proven that any 3rd-party firewall is better than Windows Firewall.

We could have sold Emsisoft Internet Security and made more money, but we had to be honest with you. We didn’t sell the Internet Security suite because we really believe that you’d be no safer with it than with Emsisoft Anti-Malware and the Windows firewall.

We really respect the Emsisoft team and the software they develop, and we believe they make the best anti-malware / anti-spyware program on the planet. And we do understand why the Emsisoft team feels the need to compete with the big name “Internet Security Suites”. But our concern, as always, is you. We care about your safety. We always recommend whatever protects your privacy and your computer best. And nothing we’ve ever tested, or worked with,  protects you better than Emsisoft Anti-Malware (and anti-virus) and the firewall that all of you who use Windows users already have.

I mistakenly downloaded the full suite for my husband’s new laptop. It’s a major resource hog, and once installed would not let him access sites that we had previously had no problems with such as his on-line classes and Yahoo.
    Just fyi.
Thanks again for maintaining your well-documented history of being “Jack Webb”, “Just the facts, Ma’am.”

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us. I respect your honesty and integrity in doing so … as always, I hope and pray that Emsisoft continues to give it’s users the choice, and doesn’t follow the “bloat pack”.

Thanks so much for giving us the information. I recently received an email from Emsisoft because I have their fabulous program protecting my computer. They were offering me the upgrade, but I was hesitant. I remembered what you two have said in the past about 3rd party firewalls, and was actually going to send you a note asking about whether anything had changed in your opinion about them. I remember having a 3rd party firewall a long time ago and just hated all the warnings and problems. I am relieved to know my windows firewall is still getting a thumbs up and that I don’t need a security suite…..been there….done that too. Thanks so much for thinking of us and our hard-earned dollars, and being honest with us to the detriment of your wallets. It is deeply appreciated!!!! <3

Good to know. When I got their email offer, I immediately thought of all the times you guys have said that the Windows firewall was all that was needed. I admit I wondered if anything had changed, so I really appreciate you letting us know. Nothing I love more than saving money, if it doesn’t put me at risk. 🙂

Thank you for this. I had an email from Emsisoft a while back but decided to wait
until I heard from you to see if it was necessary. It seems it’s not but will renew
my Emsis license as it’s the best.

sometimes I dont get around to reading your daily right away. I am glad i read this before jumping on the offer Emsisoft was giving to its regular customers. This is one time I’m glad I read the “Daily” before spending time and money without extra benefit . Thank you for the article.

How can you tell if you have the upgrade to Emsisoft?
And also, As long as I have Emsisoft, do I still need Malwarebyes/anti-malware?
As the others have said, thank you for your concern for us, most of us are seniors and fully trust you.
