Email on Windows 10 is becoming a problem for many. Microsoft is phasing out support for Microsoft email accounts (Hotmail, Outlook.com, Live.com, Live.ca, and MSN.com) in Windows Live Mail. Sometime ago my dear CloudEight friends set up my email program which is headed “CloudEight – Microsoft Outlook.” Will this email program continue to work, or should I have you folks set up the Thunderbird email for me?
I greatly enjoy my email and want to keep it working well. Many thanks for your help.
MS Outlook is Microsoft’s flagship mail program. It will always work. I’m not aware we installed Outlook for anyone though…since it’s not free. Are you sure you aren’t referring to Windows Mail? Thanks for your nice comments.
I have 8.1. WLM doesn’t work the greatest on it either. Will thunderbird work on it and would you install it on 8.1?
T-bird works on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
I was having so much trouble with my 2010 Outlook mail program clashing with the Windows 10 mail program that I uninstalled the 2010 Home and Office Outlook and bought the Thunderbird Office and it works beautifully, but I don’t know much beyond the basics of using it. Since I am a booster you offered a good deal on something and another Thunderbird Office was included. I intend to install this one on my husband’s computer. After you finish taking care of the rush of orders from this new offer, could I use my free Thunderbird key and sign up to have you install it in my husband’s computer?
Sure, you can use your key and we’ll install T-bird on your husband’s computer. I think you meant SoftMaker Office with Thunderbird? I just want to clear that up for those reading this. I know what you meant 🙂
i use emclient at eastlunk.ca, works perfectly, .you thoughts on this mail program.
EM Client is not free (unless you only have one account). When I found it years ago, I thought it was pretty good, but now I couldn’t recommend it. That being said, as with my comments to Jason – use what you like.
I’m not sure how familiar you are with Outlook 2013, the program I am now using, as compared to Thunderbird. I do have Thunderbird installed and do have my 3 addresses set up. I just am not that crazy about their address book. I do like the idea that Thunderbird is being improved by the community all the time. I mainly have Office because my wife uses it at work and wanted it in our laptop at home. She hates Outlook for email at work. I have 2 keys I never used. Could I use one of them and have you go over the things I would like taken care of with Thunderbird if they can be done?
It’s all a matter of preference. Most home users find Outlook overkill as it emphasizes features most home users don’t need or want. Let’s face it…Outlook is more geared for business use and not for home users. But if you like it, by all means keep using it. It will be compatible with Windows for a long time to come.
As far as Thunderbird’s Address Book – I think it’s great. If you want to write an email to someone who’s in your address book, all you have to do is start typing the first couple letters of their and you click on the person to whom you want to send email.
Personally, I don’t like Outlook, I find it “heavy” with features I don’t use; I find it very slow to open and I find it uses up a lot of resources. But that’s my opinion. It may be your favorite program and if so, that’s what you should stick with. EB and I disagree on a lot of program that we install for our personal use. For instance, she like iTunes and I don’t. But that sure doesn’t mean iTunes is a worthless or bad program.
I guess I’ve not been much help. Use what works for you, Jason. Don’t switch because someone else tells you they like something else.
We took a lot of time learning T-Bird and how to use stationery with it because we see the end of Windows Mail coming. Windows 10 breaks it almost every time it updates. We don’t think many people are going to want to continue to deal with that. Thunderbird is compatible with Windows 10 and has a familiar look.
To sum up – if you like Outlook, that’s all that matters.
Also if there is something that you wish you had or could change in Thunderbird you might can find an extension for which is just like Firefox. I do that with my FossaMail and have done that with my Thunderbird on another computer.
I left Windows Live Mail a good while back. I don’t know if we will ever see Microsoft make a good email -client again for the average home user. What they are putting out now is, well I will leave it alone. A office person will be fine I think, but we all don’t use Outlook.
I will say this again. I don’t know where Microsoft’s head is at.
