Another reason Microsoft needs to wake up

By | December 30, 2013

Declining PC sales and rising sales of non-Windows tablets and Chromebooks would seem to serve as a wake-up call to the sleeping giant we all know as Microsoft.

Whether you love or hate Windows 8 or 8.1, the fact remains it’s the worst selling new Windows operating system ever. We really hope Microsoft wakes up soon — just about all of us who use computers can thank Microsoft for making computer accessible to the masses.

No doubt Apple makes great computers, but their pricing it a bit out of reach for many people. But Chromebooks can be purchased for less than Windows computers and they’re super easy to use…but they’re limited.

When Google introduces Android-base laptops and PCs, Microsoft better be ready with something. Any of you with an Android tablet or phone know that it’s as easy to use as Windows – and with over a half-a-million apps (programs) available for it on Google Play, it’s sure to be a winner when Android-powered PCs and laptops hit the market this coming summer.

This article shows that businesses are not taking kindly to Windows 8 – and either is the general public:

Chromebooks overtake Android tablets and Macs in US business sales

Chrome OS is at last gaining some momentum — among US businesses and schools, anyway. The NPD Group reports that Chromebooks represented 9.6 percent of all computing devices sold through American commercial channels in 2013, or enough to surpass the market share of Android tablets, Windows tablets and MacBooks. Google’s rise put the squeeze on traditional computers, which dropped from 77.8 percent of the commercial space to 63.7 percent this year. NPD researchers don’t believe that the PC is going away, but they note that the most successful companies diversified their gadget lineups. Samsung’s combo of Android and Chromebooks helped it jump to 10 percent share of commercial sales in 2013, while PC-focused builders like HP took a bruising; it’s clear that one-trick ponies won’t thrive in the workplace for much longer.

“AMEN” Brother. Windows has never been the same after Win98 was replaced with those terrible versions
WIN-ME, -VISTA, -7 and now -8, {we’ll exclude -XP, it’s just too bad Microsoft didn’t recognize a decent OS when they had one comparable to WIN-98).

I agree with you totally, TC. I’m still using XP on my laptop. I find it easy to use and understand. We can only hope that Microsoft comes around and realizes what a great operating system it is. A bit of tweaking here and there would make it great. My husband and I are on a fixed income and can’t afford to get another computer with the new operating system. But, we could sure budget an upgrade price for XP. We can only pray!
