Beware Toolbars

Goga wants to know what we think of this coupon toolbar
I got an email to get coupons for food. I’d like to do this but they want you to download a toolbar. This is not something I ever do. Can you let me know if this is safe to download so I can get the coupons? Thank you.  http://www.restaurantrover.com/Mascot/ApplyStepThree.aspx?lid=65031822

Our Answer
Our general philosophy on toolbars? Run away as fast as you can. And on this toolbar? Run away and hide from it. It’s privacy-stealing, coupon toolbar that may well turn your browser into a billboard and fill your email inbox with spam.

One glance at their privacy policy tells us this toolbar is bad medicine. Any money you saved on the coupons would be paid back double with your aggravation.

Here is part of their privacy policy:

In other words they collect every bit of information they can about you and you give them permission to do so. Then you also give them permission to give your information to anyone they want to. What the heck are “trusted third parties”? Trusted third parties are any parties willing to pay to get your information from this company.

Our advice – STEER CLEAR!
