Sandy has a question about Unchecky and creating cartoons from photos
Two Questions. One, have you heard of Unchecky and is it good and safe? Is it worth using? Second, I would love to cartoon or caricature myself online and save it. You see adds all the time, especially on Facebook, I think it’s called cartoon yourself. But I won’t download something like that, that I don’t know about. Is there anywhere to cartoon yourself without a download or with a safe download? That would be for PC. And if not for PC, a safe one for a tablet.
Our answer
Unchecky is better than installing malware because the checkboxes in freeware/trialware to install additional junkware/malware were left checked during installation. But diligence on your part is the best solution. Unchecky misses some checkboxes and thus you’ll end up installing garbage or malware on your computer when it does. Don’t rely on software to cover you — do it yourself when you can. It may take you an extra minute or two to use care when installing software and to uncheck any checkboxes which, when left unchecked, give the installer permission to install garbage/malware on your computer. So we say you’re better off using diligence when installing software than using Unchecky.
We’ve not had a chance to look at all software that claims to turn photos into cartoons, but what we have found is much of it is either not free or is free but installs malware. We did find a site that does a decent job of making cartoons out of photos, and gives you several options to edit the final result.
You’ll notice above, the EB looks much better cartoonized than in reality. Whereas TC looks good anyway you look at him. It’s genetics, I tells ya!
This applies to tablets, phones, and PCs: Unless you have a good idea that a cartoonization program is free from malware or you are willing to pay for a cartoonizer, we’d recommend you stick with an online cartoonizer like the one at www.kusocartoon.com . It can be used from and with any internet-connected device.
