Colorize old black and white photos with professional touch

Jacqueline would like to colorize a special black and white photo
My Dad will be turning 89 in October. My Mom gave me a picture of my Dad and several of his WWII Navy buddies. Dad looks so adorable. But my Mom asked me to see if I could colorize the picture without making it look fake. Any program you could recommend for me to try is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you do for us. I’ve donated to your cause a couple of times and hope you all are starting to climb out of the soup.

Our answer
Thanks so much, Jacqueline. We’re not out of the soup yet, but we’re treading water — at least we’re not sinking! We didn’t have a lot of time to find a good answer for you, but we did do a little preliminary testing of a program that looks like it will do the job for you and it’s easy to use. They have tutorials online and the program seems to work well. It’s not free though, it’s $29. But they do offer a 21-day free trial so you can give it a try and see if you can make give that old black and white photo some color and pizazz! The program is called Recolored and it works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (we didn’t test it on Windows 8, but it should work fine).

Here’s some samples of what it can do:

If this looks like what you’re looking for, head on over to http://www.recolored.com/  and download the 21-day free trial and work with that black and white photo and see what you can do with it. If you need help learning to use the program, visit www.recolored.com  and check out their help and tutorial pages.

Good luck with that precious picture of dad!

The links to this program Recolored no longer are available and I really want to purchase it. Is there anyway that some one can help me?

We have no control over which sites go out of business, Andre. That article is almost 3 years old. It was great when we tested it almost 3 years ago…unfortunately the world changes and even good things are left behind. We have not checked this site out but it is a Web app that allows you to color black & white photos – we cannot tell you how well it works – so let us know. The site is ColorizePhoto – try it and let us know how it works.

You are right. It is 2018 now en http://www.Recolored does not exist anymore.
Recolored is by Bertheussen IT from Trondheim Norway and i have the impression they are focusing now on Games.
Why Recolored is still a 21 day trial version with no possibility of purchasing is beyond my reason.
And after these 21 dyas, i tried, but you do not get another possibilty of downlaoding Recolored.
ColorizePhoto is a nice second. But does not colorize everything. Especially parts in the black and white photograph that ‘light up’. It stays white. Just the brim gets a small touch of color.
GIMP is free but to complicated with all its layers. At least to me. So is p.e. AKVIS.
What a shame Recolored is off tone. Do they not want make money with this very accessable program.
