Sean Harrington, 35, allegedly sent photos from the cell phone of a DUI suspect to his own phone, reported the San Francisco Chronicle. He then reportedly shared the photos with other CHP officers.
The investigation began after a woman who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in August noticed that photos from her phone had been sent to a number that she did not recognize, according to the Contra Costa Times. The photos were sent when the woman was being processed in jail, the newspaper reported.
Harrington allegedly asked for the woman’s iPhone password during her arrest.
In another incident, Harrington allegedly texted another CHP officer, Robert Hazelwood, photos of a woman in a bikini taken from her phone while she was in the hospital following a DUI incident.
Harrington, who described looking for nude photos of female suspects as a “game,” told Contra Costa County prosecutors that other officers were already engaging in the unlawful behavior when he first started his job, reported the Contra Costa Times.
So far, none of the CHP officers have been charged.
Just when you think you’ve heard it all! This is a horrible invasion of privacy, not to mention local law enforcement abusing the very laws they were hired to protect and enforce. Sadly, I will not be surprised if none of the officers involved get punished or fired for this.
Lorraine, I completely agree with you! How can we hope for better for our kids when those in authority can’t even control themselves!! And it just blows my mind to think there are still people out there who have not learned to never put trash on their cells! It’s not ever going anywhere, it will forever be in the cloud for ANYONE to see!
We have become such a sick society today…… pb
you should refuse to give anybody your password.
You’re correct. However this person was drunk and therefore incapable of rational decision. Even MORE reason for this cop to be fired.
