We do a lot of copying and moving files. And one thing we’ve noticed about Windows is, if you’re copying a large number of very big files (digital photos, for example), Windows isn’t the fastest. It seems sluggish when moving or copying a lot of large files from one location to another. It’s always been this way.
The other day, EB found a program (freeware) that makes copying and moving files much faster. The program dramatically increased the speed of her file copying and moving. No one moves as much stuff around as EB. It’s her hobby, I think. She’s never happy with where things are – she must move them around – or make 5 copies of everything “just in case”. She’s probably wiser than TC who figures luck will always prevail – but knows it won’t.
Anyway, if you find yourself frequently moving or copying a lot of files, you will want to give TeraCopy a try. They offer a freeware version – and a paid version. For our money π the freeware version works just fine. And if it works just fine for EB, the freeware version will work just fine for you too. You can’t possibly be that fussy.
Here’s what the author of TeraCopy has to say:
“TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user with a lot of features:
Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.
Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.
Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skip the file, not terminating the entire transfer.
Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.
Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.
Full Unicode support.
Windows 7 x64 support.”
