Daryl says we’re a bunch of liars
Has your hatred of Microsoft grown so strong that you feel you have to photoshop screen shots and write untruthful articles about them bundling software. I once relied on you guys for the truth, but I found out you’re just like the rest. You have really stooped low on this one. I never thought I would ever see you lie to carry out a smear campaign on Microsoft.
Our answer
Well Daryl, what can we say? We ARE guilty of one thing – we forgot to mention that the pre-checked box for Bing and MSN homepage is on the U.S. version of the Microsoft page. You’re from Canada and indeed the Canadian version of the page does not have the box pre-checked.
We should have said that the box is checked on the U.S. version of the Microsoft page. We can’t possibly check pages from every single English-speaking country.. We apologize if anyone from anywhere other than the USA saw the box unchecked. As of today, the US page still has the box prechecked.
As of today, February 12, 2015, the U.S. version of the download page for Microsoft products still has the box checked.
We don’t hate Microsoft; we do hate seeing Microsoft stooping to this level in an obvious attempt to try and catch up with Google. The way to beat competition isn’t by cheating, it’s by making better products than your competitors. If Microsoft made better products than Google then they would not have force Bing and MSN down people’s throats. And that’s not Microsoft hatred, that’s the truth.
We always try to be honest and would never intentionally “photoshop” an image so that if fits an article. We don’t hate Microsoft – we’re sad to see them doing some of the things they do. We think Windows 10 will be the best thing Microsoft has done since Windows XP. It’s still early in the development stage, and there’s still plenty of time for Microsoft to ruin it; we just hope they stay on track and keep making it better and better as they have been doing. If they do it will be the biggest hit since Windows XP.
Daryl, we hope you’ll give a break on this one. We never, ever, thought of viewing that Microsoft page as it would appear to those in Canada, the U.K., Australia or New Zealand. All we know is what we see on the U.S. version of the page. Every country will see its own version of that page by default as geographical location is automatically determined by the Web site.
Daryl, I don’t understand why you’d jump to conclusions, and make accusations like that. Especially against people that you said you trusted. Throwing in that accusation that the screenshots were Photoshopped? Pure nonsense. Unlike TC and EB, Microsoft doesn’t give a hoot what you or anyone else thinks of them or what they do. Microsoft wouldn’t have given your rant the time of day.
I totally agree with InfoAve’s original article on the subject. But, when it comes to Bing (search engine) and MSN (homepage), for what reason(s) would Microsoft sneak that checked box into the US version and not the Canadian version? I’m curious about what Microsoft has done with versions in other countries?
Amen
Agreed, Muriel.
Dear TC and EB, I can’t believe Daryl is making all the nasty remarks about you photoshoping and telling lies. I have been a friend of yours for many years and you two are the best and most honest people I know. I trust you completely and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t know what they are taling about. I have learned so much from you two and respect you very much. I will support you forever. Daryl needs to apologize to you.
Another amen
Another agreed 🙂
In Australia, we would call Daryl a wanker (any good Aussie dictionary will define that one).
What little I can claim to know about computing and related subjects is a result of diligent reading and TRUST in the many subjects you have covered. However, being an educated and open minded Aussie, I make appropriate allowances for different countries. Much of your information is, perforce, US oriented and, if I can’t transpose it to the prevailing conditions here, then I just proceed to ignore it and move on.
This may explain why the boxes were not checked in Canada.

How I wish every country would pass a law like the one forbidding add ons to the original download program. What a marvellous idea
I,m a senior citizen and really do not understand a lot about computers. My computer was going crazy a few days so I contacted my anti virus company or so I thought and I told the all what was happening they proceeded to go ahead and help me to find the problem a few time they mentioned purchasing a program that would protect my computer from, well you name it they could do it. i repeatedly asked them if they were MY anti virus protection and because the accent was so strong half the time I couldn’t under stand what they were saying to me.As it turned out they were not the program I was with all though I called the telephone # they provided on the computer when I looked them up to get help. They said they were withmicrosoft and for a fee they would do all kinds of wonderful things for me again I asked them again if I was talking to my !!!!! Again they sort of really did not give me a clear answer but it sounded to me like it was my!,, to make a long story short I diceded to let them take control of my computer the next morning it still wasn’t,t resolved I called them and told them I had changed my mind and they said they would refund my money, If they could do all kinds of wonderful things, how do I know if this Microsoft company can get into my program how do I know that another program cannot get into Last Pass. I would love to be able to have something rember passwords, but I,m really afraid to do something like that. Especially as I would,nt have a clue to fix Anything…… Patricia
You have been scammed. It’s so important when you search for a telephone number that you get the right phone number – usually the first 3 or 4 are advertisement with names similar to the company you’re looking for – for example: http://microsoftsupport.fixpc.com – has nothing to do with Microsoft but the name Microsoft appears in the name. The only thing that matters is the domain name which is the name that appears right before the dot com, dot net, dot org etc. You’ve been scammed. You need to contact your credit card company and tell them you’ve been scammed and they will restore the money to your account.
Call a reliable remote computer repair service – someone you trust. And never let anyone connect to your computer that you aren’t sure of.
oops. would you believe I miss-spelt my own name? But further to my original comment, why anyone would doubt you is beyond me. You have been my guiding light and instructors for many years
Amen!
I’m happy to say I’ve benefited from Cloudeight’s services for quite a few years. I’ve depended on them to keep me out of pitfalls and direct me to software whose names aren’t the ones you’ll necessarily see at the big box stores but do a better job at what they claim to do and often for less money. Their help has been golden.
In the Good Ole Days, TC and EB could actually make enough money through the sales of their e-books and other downloads they created. They were never rich, but at least they made enough so that could eat on a regular basis. Then for a number of reasons not within their control, their business fell through the floor. They were tattered and torn and extremely anxious about their economic survival. Even though they had been enticed to sell out even in the good times, those enticements sure did look appealing when they were flat on their backs. However, you see, they possess this thing called INTEGRITY. and no matter how desperate the situation, they held on to it.
They continued to fight on in very bleak circumstances but eventually reinvented themselves as an online computer repair service. If you haven’t tried it, it’s really a fascinating process, and every repair job helps TC and EB stay afloat. Although they probably won’t be stocking up on prime rib, at least the online repairs help them to eat again. However, regular meals are dependent on steady repair jobs which is why they ask us to forward information about their services to others.
No, TC and EB don’t lie. However, they do criticize when they feel some company is taking us for a bad ride. I, for one, am so grateful that they do that. After all, who else is looking out for little folks like us who are mostly home users?
Although I’ve never seen TC and EB, I picture them as angels. They have earned my trust repeatedly through the years. Thanks so much TC and EB. May you have growing success.
Daryl does not ring true!!
How come somebody that has trusted in Cloudeight, (If they have trusted in??) who would have obviously experienced their genuine efforts to give the correct and best advice wherever/whenever as to their best ability, with the information available to them, then turn around and make such demeaning accusations?? NO! you would not, you would first verify that in question!! I simply do not believe in his rant, what a wanker?? no! a real typical plant!!!
It is not the first time Cloudeight has made a little slip-up, but it certainly does not call for such demeaning accusations, does it!! Furthermore, I would not call any body a liar who has unintentionally given information that could be found to be not fully correct or complete!! You will notice I said “unintentionally”, I wonder what Daryl’s intentions were!!?
