DuckDuckGo adds a great new feature

Kathy wants the Duck
Hi Guys, Love you to death. A few weeks ago you had a search bar for “duck” or something like that. I forgot to keep it and now can’t remember what it was. Is there anyway you can repost it in your newsletter. You guys are the best. Keep up the super work… Hugs, Kathy

Our answer
Thanks Kathy. It’s not a search bar — it’s search engine / search site. It’s called www.duckduckgo.com . It uses Google’s search algorithms without the tracking or the ads. It is a very simple page which provides excellent search results. Hope this helps you find the Duck.

You’ll notice a drop-down arrow on the left side of the search form. It’s called “!Bang” And here’s what the Duck says !Bang is:

!Bang

DuckDuckGo enables you to search 100s of other sites directly.
Just use this dropdown next to the search box. As you use it, your most frequented sites will automatically be displayed at the top.
Or you can type in a command like ‘!amazon bags’, which will take you to Amazon.com and auto-search it for ‘bags’.
We call these commands !bangs, and this syntax works for 100s of sites:
Most big sites work, e.g. !youtube (see full list below)
Most generic keywords work too, e.g. !images
There are also shorter versions, e.g. !g (google) !i (images) !yt (youtube)
!ducky or ‘! ‘ or ‘\’ will take you to the first result.
!safeoff will run a search with safe search off.

Want to know more about !Bang? Visit this page: http://duckduckgo.com/bang.html

So you see the Duck is learning new tricks all the time. It’s a good thing you asked about it.

Again, the URL is http://duckduckgo.com/ .

I have duckduckgo set as my default search engine in my browser. I love it.

When I want to use Google I use Cloudeight’s HomePage Google search window, just cause I know it helps earn a little extra $$ for them.

I’ll have to try this new “duck” feature, though. Sounds interesting.

Hey all, Zac from DuckDuckGo here. I just wanted to point out that we tweaked the settings a bit and, to have your most-used !bangs appear in the dropdown menu, you should enable it via the Settings menu: https://duckduckgo.com/settings.html (under the Layout tab). We changed this around because it relies on anonymous cookies and we wanted to make sure that users are given a choice of opting in to cookie storage, even though it’s completely anonymous 🙂

Thanks for being fans! If you have any questions or suggestions, you can send those our way through this page: https://duckduckgo.com/feedback.html
