We have been receiving excellent feedback about Emsisoft Anti-Malware. And the more time passes, the more we’ve chosen the best product to protect our computers and yours. Not only is Emsisoft Anti-Malware the best anti-malware program, it ranks at the top in antivirus protection too.
One of the concerns we know some folks have is that Emsisoft tends to error on the side of YOUR safety. So, if a program exhibits suspicious behavior, Emsisoft is going to block it until you tell it to do otherwise. This is one of the best features of Emsisoft — and one of the least understood. Emsisoft gives you the final say if a program or Web site exhibits suspicious behavior. And some legitimate programs and Web sites use methods similar to malware – but for benign purposes. Malware programmers are not stupid. While malware may be malevolent, some of the sneaky tricks they pull are actually features of some legitimate software. And because Emsisoft users a behavioral approach to detection as well as a defined approach, sometimes Emsisoft is going to cast a cold eye at some of your most trusted programs. But in every case where Emsisoft is using its behavioral detection — it also offers you the option to say – “No, Emsi, this program is one I trust and have used for months (or years).” And this is a great feature of Emsisoft that many of you are not using because you may not be aware of it.
The next time Emsisoft warns you about a program you trust or a program you install and trust, and a warning appears about the program, check the box next to “Exclude from protection” – and Emsisoft will quietly create a rule and you’ll never see it warn you again about that program. It’s simple. You only have to do it once.
We have done it with some of our favorite programs. We would rather have Emsisoft warn us about something and let us choose what to do with it, than not warn us and have some malicious program running on our computer.
Here is a screenshot of some of the exclusions TC had created for Emsisoft Anti-Malware:
If you look at the image above you can see that CalendarPal, EmClient, Filezilla (an FTP client), Microsoft Expression Web (an HTML editor), OPENDNS, and Palemoon (a Mozilla/Firefox-based browser) have all been excluded from protection. And please note, excluding a program from protection, like an off-brand browser, doesn’t mean that browser can go crazy and I can start installing malware toolbars on it without Emsisoft reacting – it just means I can open the browser without the watchful eye of Emsisoft questioning it.
So the next time Emsisoft warns you about a program or Web site you are sure of — one you know well and trust — exclude it from protection. We love the fact that Emsisoft puts us in charge. And don’t worry, if something comes along that Emsisoft KNOWS is dangerous by its definition files, it will block it and keep you safe.
