Goodbye Internet Explorer – Hello Spartan?

spartanRumors Say Microsoft to Replace Internet Explorer With “Spartan” Browser

It’s no secret, at least not to most of you, that Chrome and Firefox have stolen the crown from Internet Explorer. Whether they are better browsers, more functional or less troublesome, is up to the user. However, there may never been another Internet Explorer as IE fans have known it. Microsoft is planning a new browser, code-named “Spartan” which will replaced Internet Explorer in Windows 10.

Personally I welcome the news – I rarely use IE at all anymore. I have been using Chrome as my main browser for years now and I still haven’t found anything better. EB uses IE and Chrome both. Some of you are dyed-in-the-wool Internet Explorer fans. Whether you are an IE fan or not,  you should know that it seems like the end of IE is at hand and a new Microsoft browser will be introduced with Windows 10. Whether “Spartan” will be available to those using older versions of Windows remains to be seen.

Here’s an excerpt from an article from The Hacker News -with more details for you:

Bad News for Internet Explorer fans, if any! Microsoft’s almost 20 years old Web browser with a big blue E signmight soon be a thing of the past.

With the arrival of Windows 10, probably by next fall, Microsoft could come up with its brand new browser that’s more similar to Mozilla’s Firefox and Google’s Chrome, but less like Internet Explorer (IE), according to a recent report published by ZDNet.

“Ok so Microsoft is about to launch a new browser that’s not Internet Explorer and will be the default browser in Windows 10,” tweeted Thomas Nigro, a Microsoft Student Partner lead and developer of the modern version of VLC.

The browser, codenamed “Spartan,” is a “light-weight” browser with extension support, and multiple sources confirm that this new browser isn’t IE12. Instead, Spartan is an entirely new browser that will use Microsoft’s Chakra JavaScript engine and Trident rendering engine (as opposed to WebKit). But Internet Explorer isn’t going away completely.

Download Chrome and when it asks if you want to make it your default browser, say “Yes”.

I hope this is true. I use more than one browser and it is good for all of us when they keep competing against each other.

I’ve tried Chrome and just didn’t like it! So I’ve been using Firefox for some time now. But still, there are things I miss with IE….one that I can think of right off the top of my head is making a shortcut to the desktop! Firefox puts TWO links…..one is all the files that relate to the main link. They seem to work in conjunction with one another. And you don’t seem to have a choice, that’s just the way it is! As near as I can tell anyway. So I end up switching over to IE to save to my desktop. And not long ago by brother sent me a couple of links from YouTube that I didn’t have time to watch right then, I saved them to the desktop and NOW, I was only able to delete the folder links. The video ones are still there and no matter what I do I can’t get rid of them! Very frustrating. So I’ll be very interested in seeing how this Spartan turns out…..
