How fast is your ISP?

By | April 4, 2011

The U.S. Federal Government has mandated that high-speed Internet is essential to our economy and plans to increase access and broadband speeds to 100 Mbps by 2020. Most of us living in the U.S. think we’re pretty cool and have the fastest and bestest. But alas, we’ve fallen behind the last decade or so. Did you know that our average broadband Internet speeds rank 12th in the world? We’re behind Romania for example. Japan and Korea are much faster and so is most of Europe.

So finally we’re going to get real “high-speed” Internet over here, although by the time we do, EB and I will be too old to care. That being said, wouldn’t you like to know how fast your ISP is compared to others. TC put his ISP to the test and he didn’t fare too badly compared to other ISPs, although if he were in South Korea they’d laughing at his slow connection.

You can put your ISP to the test and find out how fast or slow your connection is and how you compare to other ISPs and to TC’s speed too, because he’s publishing his results for all to see. Laugh if you will, it’s the best he can do!

Test your ISP and your connection speed at www.speedtest.net . There are other places to test your speed too, but Speedtest seems have the best reputation for accuracy and reliability.
