Steve want to know how to open programs as administrator on Windows 7
Sometimes when I try your tips that run from a command prompt, it says I don’t have administrator rights or something like that to run that command. How do I fix that? I appreciate all your great tips. I just wish I could run these kind!
Our answer
We know what you mean. We hate it when we’re trying to perform a task in Windows 7 or Vista that requires you to run a Windows program that requires you to use an elevated command prompt. If you don’t run an elevated command prompt you get the message that you “must be an administrator” to run it.
Here are two quick and easy ways to open an elevated command prompt in Windows Vista or Windows 7:Method #1
To open an elevated command prompt,
1.Press the Window key
2. Type cmd; press Ctrl+Shift+Enter; and then hit ALT+C to confirm the elevation prompt.
Method #2
In the search bar at the bottom of the start menu, type COMMAND and press Enter. Command prompt will appear at the top of the menu. Right click it an choose “Run as administrator”.
Here’s another tip. You can change the command prompt window’s background color and text color by typing f1 at the prompt. F1 will turn the background white and the text color dark blue. You can use f4 if you prefer red text – or you can play around with the number after f to give you different colors of text. For instance color f9 gives you a white background with medium blue text. So you don’t have to be stuck looking at a plain, old black and white DOS prompt window.
I tried the above remedy unsuccessfully! I always have problems updating itunes with a response telling me I am “not authorised” even though I am the only user of this computer and I am the Administrator. I know that Apple and Windows 7 are not a “happy” relationship but it is so frustrating!
Thank you so much, I haven’t been able to update my Super Anti-Spyware program as I had the ‘Administator’ message, now I will be able to finally do this update.
You people are so awesome.
Anne
Like Anne Stewart, I had the same problem with Super Anti-Spyware receiving the following message “the update must be done from an account with Administrator privileges” Unfortunately, unlike Anne, your little tip (#2)has not resolved the problem. Any suggestions – I am left with a black & white DOS screen reading C:backslash Windows backslash system32? (Dell Inspiron 560;OS Windows 7 Pro 64 bit)
Eternally grateful for all the info you share with us .
Hector
As always is the case, whenever you have a problem with a program, write to the company that made it. SuperAntiSpyware has excellent support – I’m sure they could help you.
