Is Microsoft Going to Extend the Windows 10 Free Upgrade Offer?

If you’re still holding off upgrading to Windows 10 – waiting for Microsoft to “work the bugs out”, or if you’re betting that Microsoft is going to extend the July 29, 2016 deadline to get the free Windows 10 upgrade, listen up!

According to the lastest word from Microsoft, if you fail to upgrade by July 29 2016, plan on spending $119 on a Windows 10 license, buying a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed, or hanging on to the Windows version you’re using now. Windows 7 will be supported by Microsoft until January 14, 2020 and Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 will be supported until January 10, 2023.

There is one exception to the deadline to get the Windows 10 upgrade free. Microsoft says that customers using assistive technologies will continue to receive the Windows 10 upgrade free. Here’s the official word on that from Microsoft:

“…As you may have heard, the free Windows 10 upgrade offer for customers running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 is set to end on July 29, but we want to clarify that that deadline will *not* apply to customers who use assistive technologies. We are continuing to deliver on our previously-shared vision for accessibility for Windows 10 and we are committed to ensuring that users of assistive technologies have the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free as we do so.

Stay tuned for more details on how you can take advantage of the free offer. In the meantime, you can read more about our accessibility roadmap for Windows 10 on the Microsoft on the Issues blog…”

If you’re scratching your head wondering what “assistive technology” is, here’s a definition from Wikipedia:

“Assistive technology is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them.”

In short, there’s a very good chance the assistive technologies exception does not apply to you.

So, if you’re putting off upgrading to Windows 10 while it’s free — until July 29, 2016″ and you’re thinking Microsoft is going to get weak in the knees and buckle under to pressure to extend the deadline for upgrading to Windows 10 free – it “ain’t gonna happen”.

Windows 10 is an exceptionally good operating system. Is it perfect? No. Is Windows 7 perfect? No. Is Windows 8x perfect. No. The much loved Windows XP was never perfect and died imperfect. Apple computers are not perfect, Linux is not perfect, nothing in this world is perfect.

When we say Windows 10 is a great operating system, we’re not just talking. We never used Windows 8 or 8.1 to run our small business. We installed Windows 8.1 only to help our readers with it. We ran our businesses on Windows XP, then Windows Vista and the on Windows 7. And now were running on Windows 10 and we’ve never once said “we wish we would have kept Windows 7”.

Of course, every one of you have different needs, wants, likes and dislikes. But if you’re hanging back thinking Microsoft is going to extend the deadline to get Windows 10 free, you’re going to be disappointed.

Don’t miss your chance to get a free copy of Windows 10 because read the naysayers’ blogs bad feedback. There are negatives about everything in this world. Maybe you like bananas, but I’ll bet you’ll find someone out there that claims bananas are bad for you. The naysayers will always have the loudest voice. Satisfied customers seldom write blogs or comments to say they’re satisfied.

Windows 10 is free until July 29, 2016. After that it will be $119. When is the last time you were able to get a $119 anything for free?

Oh, and one more thing: If you upgrade to Windows 10 and really don’t like it, you have 30 days to go back to your previous operating system without losing anything. It’s like a 30-day free trial.

Microsoft isn’t going to extend the deadline for getting Windows 10 free. So upgrade now while it’s free, or keep what you’re using now. We think you’ll be very happy if you upgrade to Windows 10.

Maybe you have not heard it, but I’ve had a LOT of my clients express frustration and disappointment with Windows 10. Printers not compatible, keyboards or optical drives not recognized, software not compatible – I’ve seen all of these things. There’s nothing wrong with Windows 7, so no need to upgrade. And the fact that MS is pushing it down our throats gives many people even more reason to reject it.

I for one will not be upgrading to win/10 nor will I be buy it . I agree there isn’t anything wrong with win/7 except sales went down so now we need something new . It’s always money with these people . They act like I have a money tree in my back yard .

TC downloaded Windows 10 to my laptop and I have been very happy with it. I was a little apprehensive at first because I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer but TC fixed all sorts of “stuff”…clicking here and clicking there….fascinating to watch. I’ve had fun checking out Windows 10…..it’s great.
    Thanks a bunch TC.
