So You Think You’re Smart
Yeah, you’re pretty smart. You’re reading this! TC and EB took this test and you can guess who got the highest score! Sorry, EB. At least you look better? Ahem….
Unlike some IQ tests, this test won’t take you a day and a half to complete. It’s only 12 questions, but that may be enough. Some of the questions may seem easy – but are you sure?
Here’s what this week’s site of the week is all about, straight from the horse’s mouth:
“Test Your Brain
How smart are you? Take this quick test to peek inside the power of your brain. The test is adapted from the Mensa test by Dr. Abbie Salny and America Mensa Ltd., copyright 1992 and 2004. It can be found on page 98 of “You: The Owner’s Maual (sic).”
Now folks, week take a beating every weak from grammarians who subscribe to this newsletter just for our humorous abuse of the English language. But, explain to us why, a big site like ABC News which rakes in zillions from Cialis commercials, can’t afford an editor with a spell checker. Look, this is about intelligence – you’d think they’d spell “Manual” correctly. Even my el cheapo Front Page spell checker caught it.
Anyway, see if you can beat our scores, um I mean TC’s score. Send us your score and we’ll tell you if you beat TC.
Take the test and see how smart you are. And while you’re there, how about dropping them a note and tell them now to spell “manual”. Ewe guys sure don’t mind correcting us.
Our Cloudeight site pick is “How smart are you? – it’s part of the ABC News family.Go and show them how smart our subscribers are.
Please don’t let us down!
I took the test but couldn’t find the answers.
Same here!??
I’m with Jerry. Couldn’t find the answers after looking everywhere I could think of.
See? Part of this test was to see how smart you are and how internet savvy you are. it says in the quote from ABC that the answers can be found on page 98 of “You: The Owners Manual” (Though they, not us, misspelled “Manual”.)
I have added a link to “You: The Owners Manual”, but you’ll have to scroll to page 98 though 🙂
Perhaps a context checker might be helpful also: “Now folks, week (sic) take a beating every week from grammarians who subscribe to this newsletter just for our humorous abuse of the English language. “
Oh man…we were being facetious. Ewe no talking about grammar an stuff. Week knows that!
Pub this through your context checker.
Ewe was just as cute as a lamb.
Threw the window beyond the trees.
And repainted the fading peeling door jamb.
Sew the curtains shaggy and long.
So they cover the now lavender jamb.
And ewe was still just as cute as a lamb.
Now go play with your context editor and leave us alone. Week nose what we’re doing..

Test Your Brain Answers
(Edited by TC)
Now now now – don’t give people the answers. Let them take the test.
answer list is only way to know what you got right or wrong AFTER taking the test. I took test FIRST then looked for answer list on Web to see how I did. Most of us are curious to see how smart or dumb we are.
They were supposed to figure out how to find the answers by googling “You: The Owner’s Manual”, get it? 🙂 I have reconsidered and now added a link to “You: The Owner’s Manual”. At least they should go there and get the answers and not have you do all the work for them, right?
All I can say is Mensa would not have me in their organization. I am no genius.
I got 9 correct, but it’s a good thing there was no time limit. A little more thought would have given me 2 more correct. One feels pretty stupid when one sees the answers that were incorrect. (good exercise for the brain) Thanks, TC.
I got 9 correct, and the logic of Q5 & Q7 can have different answers based on different logic.
All other questions have only one answer.
Q5. If Britney is 10, Wolfgang Mozart is 20, and Prince and Sting are both 5, but Elvis is 10, how much is Madonna by the same ‘system’.
Answer a: Britney and Madonna are females, to match the males Madonna has to be 10, Males x 4 total score 40, 10 each, females x 2 score 20, 10 each.
Q7. 7: Which of the following is least like the others?
a. Lungs
b. Ears
c. Brain
d. Legs
e. Groin
Answer a: Groin, a, b, c, d, are body parts, the groins are an area of the body.
Answer b: Brain, one only, there are two lungs, two ears, two legs, two groins (creases at the torso junction)
In my opinion Mr. M.F. Roizen M.D. and Mr. M.C. Oz M.D. should look at the questions from ‘outside the square’, because there can be several answers to a question based on the variations of logic therein.
Well I at least got 7, which is a high respectable. Not bad I don’t think for a 71 year old brain.
I got seven correct.
CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN why the correct answer to number 8 was 20? The reasoning for that answer was not given. I am still stumped by question number eight, “How many 9’s do you pass when you start at 1 and count up to 100?.” I thought the answer was 11, using 9, 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, 69, 79, 89, 99 (with two nines) as my reasoning.
As for question seven, I chose Brain because it controls all the other possible answers.
