Meet Daphne – A Cloudeight freeware pick

Daphne is a killer. I’m sorry to say she’s a killer of applications. But if you ask her nicely she’ll kill an application politely – or just kill it dead without any conscience.

Daphne is more than a killer though. She’s a task manager replacement that will steal your heart. She’s not so pretty but she’s got brains and she’s always willing and ready to help you with those problem applications.

She will make you forget about Task Manager, because Daphne does all that Task Manager does and more. Daphne can:

1. Kill an application, service, or process politely or just kill it dead.
2. With a simple right-click she can make any window stay on top of the others – or bring a window into focus.
3. Daphne knows applications. If you have a question about something that is running on your computer – she can tell you all about it; just right-click the application and choose “Properties” and you’ll know everything Daphne knows. And she knows a lot.

Daphne says:

“Daphne is a small (system tray) application for killing, controlling and debugging Windows’ processes. It was born to kill a windows process and became almost a task manager replacement. You can kill a process by dragging the mouse over the windows, by right-clicking the process in the main process list, or by typing its name with the “Kill all by name” command. You can set a any window to be always on top, to be transparent, to be enable, et cetera.

Although Daphne was born just to kill windows process. You can think of Daphne as a task manager replacement. The main window displays a list of currently running process with detailed information about: CPU usage, Process ID, Process name, Full path (and arguments), Priority, Class (Process / Service), Current memory usage, Peek memory usage, Current swap usage, Peek swap usage and Number of threads.”

Daphne even taught me something I never knew. I never knew about Zombies. Well, I did, but only the kind that scared me when I was a kid. But Windows is full of zombies. Just you wait and see. You’ll see all kinds of zombies running around on your computer. But don’t worry – they won’t hurt you or your computer. The kind of zombies Daphne shows you are different. Daphne explains:

“A Zombie process is a process already finished. The operating system keeps a table of ended process if they were launched by another application until the parent programme ends. This is not a virus nor malware but its presence may indicate an application malfunction.”

She held my hand through the hall of zombies and I came out unscathed. She’s quite a woman, that Daphne. She has replaced my one-time friend Task Manager. But you know it goes when you fall in love – you just don’t have time for your old friends anymore.
