Microsoft account problem: We need to fix your Microsoft account
We are seeing more and more people who are suddenly getting a popup on their Windows 10 computer saying “Microsoft account problem. We need to fix your Microsoft account”. There doesn’t seem to be a specific cause or any rhyme or reason to who gets this error and who doesn’t. It happens only to those who sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account, even if they current use a PIN to sign in.
Sometimes the Microsoft account problem dialog may appear for no reason at all – or because your changed your Microsoft email address password… and it may repeat over and over.
The easiest and quickest solution we know of is to try the Microsoft Accounts troubleshooter.
Here’s how:
Download the Microsoft Accounts troubleshooter by clicking this link.
Run the file you just downloaded (microsoftaccounts.diagcab) to open the troubleshooting wizard.
Check the box next to “Apply repairs automatically” then click “Next.”
The troubleshooter will run and automatically find and try to fix any issues it finds. When it is done running, it show you all the issues it found and fixed (or didn’t fix).
That’s it. Click “Close” to dispatch the troubleshooter. Those annoying “Microsoft Account problem” notifications should be dispatched for good!
Strange, I downloaded the tool and ran it then got the message couldn’t connect to sync check internet connection and try again. I’m obviously connected to the internet or I would have been able to download the tool. It’s a mysery
I got that same message and I’m connected to the internet. Good old Microsoft!
We just published a post showing how to reset/change a MS Account password. See the post here.
Same problem with me !?
Totally illogical !!!
And if I sign in again manually it says that the account already exists and that I have to try again !?
I just did all that but it’s sickening
asking for whatever codes
they send me a 4 number code and they they ask for a 7 number code
the imbeciles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got 2 reset codes and neither of them worked ?????
We are just the messengers… don’t shoot the messengers. Contact Microsoft. You can contact them very easily- read this
I meant Microsoft of course, not you guys.
You are always helpful!
Sorry if you misunderstood.
I will contact MS.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards, John
I was just being facetious – except for the part about contacting Microsoft. If you contact them, please let me know how that goes.
I got the same message that the first two ladies on here did. Don’t know what to do about that. I’m sure glad someone wrote in asking you about that pop-up, tho. I’ve been getting that regularly. There’s nothing to click on when it shows and then it goes away.
It’s that little nerd in the back room playing “What if…?” again!
Geez, I keep getting phone calls on my home phone talking about the same problem with a Microsoft account.
I know this type of call is to be ignored, and I do, hanging up quickly without a response. Scammers.
What I do wonder is if this is in anyway related to the messages and problems that others are getting on their computers. Is the error message really real? Related to a previous privacy breach? Hard to tell these days what’s real and what isn’t. Just wondering.
Hi Lynn. I you have a problem with your Microsoft account you’ll get a notice on your computer but no way is Microsoft going to call you about it. Someone is attempting to take advantage of the ubiquitous Microsoft Account problem and exploit it using phone contacts. It’s not related to any previous privacy breaches, it’s just random phone calls. One billion people have Windows computers, so random phone calls reach a lot of Windows users. If you can get the number of the caller, do so and report it to https://www.usa.gov/stop-scams-frauds. I don’t know if it will much. You could also say you hate Windows and have a Mac 🙂
