Microsoft Pulls Windows 10 October 2018 Update
NOTE: If you have already installed Windows 10 October 2018 Update and all seems to be well, then there’s no reason to do anything. This is only a notification that some people had problems with it and Microsoft pulled the update from their update page and also from Windows Update. So if you already have it and you’re not having any problems, then that’s great – leave it alone.
We’ve removed our post on how to upgrade to Windows 10 October 2018 Update because of serious issues with the update. We became aware of the problems with Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update) early this morning that this updated was removed from Microsoft Windows 10’s “Update assistant” & “Download tool” page. The page now says “April 2018” update (Version 1803) which had its own set of problems causing Microsoft to delay its release by several weeks.
Once again it appears that Microsoft rushed out another update that was not ready for prime time and caused a significant number of users to lose personal files during the update.

Microsoft pulls Windows 10 October 2018 Update after reports of documents being deleted
Microsoft has stopped distributing its latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update. The software giant started rolling out the update during the company’s Surface event earlier this week, but some Windows 10 immediately noticed their documents were being deleted. ‘We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,’ says Microsoft on its support site for Windows Update.
Microsoft is now recommending that affected users contact the company directly, and if you’ve manually downloaded the October update then “please don’t install it and wait until new media is available.” Other Windows 10 users have been complaining that the Microsoft Edge browser and other store apps have been unable to connect to the internet after the October 2018 Update, and the update was even blocked on certain PCs due to Intel driver incompatibilities.
It’s not clear how many Windows 10 users are affected by the problem, but even if it’s a small percentage it’s still surprising this issue was never picked up during Microsoft’s vast testing of the October update. Millions of people help Microsoft test Windows 10, but the company has struggled with the quality of Windows updates recently. Microsoft delayed its Windows 10 April 2018 Update earlier this year over Blue Screen of Death issues, but those problems were picked up before the update reached regular consumers and businesses.
Microsoft was planning to push the latest October update out to all Windows 10 users next Tuesday, but that’s now likely to be put on hold while investigations continue into this major deletion problem.

I used Windows update Assistant yesterday to install the October update. It took several hours to install, but, it did not seem to have errors once it was installed. I received the error notice in a tech bulletin this morning so I decided to use the windows.old recovery option today as a matter of caution.
Hopefully, I did not lose any personal data in the process. I do have those files backed up both with an external drive and by Backblaze.
There was no reason to roll back if everything was working properly. Now you’ll have to go through the whole process again when MS gets it fixed. This problem affected only SOME people, not most people. I have added a note to the post.
Windows updated my computer early this week.
What should I do? Should I roll back my computer to Sunday the 30th?

Should we leave it if it updated already, or should we leave it? I have not noticed any problems…
Yes if all is well, please leave it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Mine was updated too now I am wondering if I will have trouble. So far I haven’t. But i am wondering if I should remove it or not.

What a mess….!!! makes you think that a large organisation like Microsoft would have enough experience and employ people who should be clever and smart enough to understand how this mess and uncertainty affects a consumers confidence in the ability of such a huge company like Microsoft to produce a quality end product .
Where is all the Common Sense ….!!! To me it appears that ongoing issues will continue haunt the future
viability of Windows 10 and all ongoing updates.

I downloaded the latest update two days ago. There were a few issues at first. Thunderbird wasn’t sending or receiving. The show desktop wasn’t working in the taskbar, last pass wouldn’t open a few sites. And then yesterday the problems just resolved them selves and now I have no issues – everything is working fine. I have windows home.
